hi everyone!!! i’m currently an applicant this cycle and i haven’t heard back from schools for II’s so i’m planning my reapp. 🥲 submitted all my secondaries mid-August, have received 2 rejections and have been under review/reviewed in some other schools…

Retaking the MCAT is #1 on my list!! I wanted to know what else others do when reapplying when it comes to their personal statements, experiences, etc., appreciate the advice!!

some info:
- FL resident
- Hispanic/Latina
- Non-trad. student (did a masters in biomedical science)
- AMCAS verified BCPM GPAS:
— ugrad: 2.58
— post bacc: 3.77
— graduate: 3.90

- MCAT, April 2024: 502 (123/126/126/127)
- clinical hours: ~3300, started a new clinical experience as an MA post-AMCAS primary submission so would be more then
- volunteer hours: ~130, still with this experience so would be more as well
- have research experience and several leadership experiences as a board member in various orgs.

- applied smart, used MSAR, had my writing reviewed by several others (current med. school students, peers, etc.)

What are your cGPA and sGPA including your post bacc ? Which schools did you apply to ?
cGPA: 2.66
undergrad sGPA: 2.58

yes i did add some of the suggested! i tried to keep it 20 under because $$ was a huge factor to not having applied to more as I was not working at the time

however, I did not apply DO….
If you reapply, you should apply broadly to DO schools and include LECOM, NOVA, OCOM and BCOM (both schools). Post your new MCAT score here when available.

I tweaked my PS but did not scrap it and start over. I rewrote most of my primary/Work and Activities section. I rewrote all of my secondary materials, although their style was not much different. Hopefully, you get in soon!

Congrats! Do you think your re-writing had something to do with your successes or just that the programs valued your persistence and another gap year of clinical/research work?

I think making my primary more resume style versus stories helped adcoms know what I did in my activities better. Also, I increased my MCAT quite a bit 509->517.

Your grad GPA, was that a SMP, postbac, a research MS, or different MS?
With a 502 MCat, almost all of those schools were donations

Many of the schools on your list have soft MCAT and GPA requirements in the range of 3.90 and 518. Case Western Reserve and Duke are two of these schools. If you do not wish to apply to DO programs, then we would strongly recommend you pursue a research year to enhance your application and give you more time to prepare for another MCAT attempt if you would like to attend one of these research-based institutions. What are your goals as a medical student? Have you considered extending your list to include more regional schools?

Your initial post says you applied smart, but you did not. It's important to realize this when you reapply. Goro and others gave you advice on schools when you initially applied including DO schools and it looks like you didn't listen to them. Now you're going to have to waste even more money reapplying. If you end up reapplying, you need to be really honest with yourself about how you can improve. That self reflection is critical for future success. It's hard to be in your shoes, but you can get there for sure.

hey! so I added some of the MD schools others mentioned based on their replies to my initial post. I am on FAP and I was unemployed at the time of submitting primaries, so applying to schools outside of the free 20 was not an option for me in the slightest… I am lucky to have finally found a job where I NOW have the $$ to apply to DO schools, which is why I mentioned I would be applying to them after the holidays.

I could not find anybody who mentioned Geisinger or Howard in your initial post, but wherever you heard that from, please ignore. You are not a fit for their missions. You can try applying to Alice Walton if you are fine with a brand new MD school as well.

Thank you. Can you mention how I am not fit for their missions?

It would be good for us to try to ask the opposite. Why did you originally think you were a good fit for either of those 2? And did that lead you to any other schools on your list or pretty much just those ones?

Some? They were all reaches. Your mcat was 502. You should be applying for DO schools unless you retake the mcat and get a more competitive score
