Hi everyone! I have just been accepted to IAUPR (found out today) for the class of 2013!!! Hopefully if I submit everything else that i need to (including that ridiculous 2000.00 deposit) then I should be there for fall '09!
Anyway, I just wanted to know if there were any seniors there or current students who are looking to sell their old books/equipment, car(s) also. Please let me know if you are and where/when I can buy it from you. If no one is selling, then will someone please suggest some websites where I can buy the supplies that I need for a good price!
You may contact me by PM (private messaging) on here.

Congrats! I'll be moving at the end of July/early August. Vacationing there to check out the housing and stuff with friends in May. There is an IAUPR facebook, might have better luck posting there.

thanx for the suggestion, I just did that

hey xtina,

I sent you a PM, but I figured we could talk through this post. I'm also hoping to get into IAUPR. I spoke with their admissions department to see if they had received any more of my documents, and as the gentleman was skimming through my file he said that although he hadn't done a full academic evaluation on my file, from the looks of it, I should be receiving a call from them real soon. Now, I'm just in that waiting period. I was curious to know how you're interview went. If it was administered in Spanish? What kind of questions to look out for? Would you recommend doing it with an alumni in your current state, or if possible, to fly out there and do the interview in Puerto Rico. I'm sorry for all of these questions. I'm just in that anxious period where you found yourself a couple of weeks ago ... 🙂

FuturaOD, I am sure they base the Spanish interview component based on the level of Spanish you have. I speak Spanish fluently so the majority of the interview was done in Spanish. However, for those that don't know the language well, they may just ask very generic questions. As for questions, just know why you want to go into optometry, what experience you have had, and why you chose to apply to IAUPR. It's very basic stuff like any other interview.

Some people will interview in person, others may be interviewed by phone, and yet others may have interviewers in their town.

I do speak Spanish quite fluently, but I feel I express myself better in English. I wonder if they would do it in Spanish because I do speak it, or if I should let them know that I would probably feel more comfortable doing the interview in English. Thank you for the questions. I'm pretty sure I have those answers down packed. We'll see what happens.

Well during the interview they asked me if I spoke Spanish and I of course said yes. Then the interviewer proceeded to ask me if we can converse in Spanish and I agreed. I felt if i said "no" then it would look bad on my part. They initially start the interview in English but part of the interview is also done to assess your level of proficiency in the language. I too express myself better in English but I wouldn't worry too much. They are very nice.

Sorry FuturaOD I have been really delinquent with SDN. Graduation is less than a month, finals are gonna come fast as will the 3rd exams for my classes, and I still have several hw assignments to complete which includes a research paper. Probably by now you already had your interview but I will answer your questions anyway. I did not have a choice as to how the interview will be given to me; they actually had an alumn that worked "near" where I lived so I had the interview w. him in a Borders. The interview was very relaxed, and the optometrist who interviewed me kind of gave me the impression that this wasn't a "big deal". He began the interview in English, and asked me if I was fluent in Spanish; since I am not, the entire interview was held in English. He was basically following the evaluation sheet that came from the school's admissions manual; so all of the questions were pretty simple and straight forward. He asked me stuff like: gimme 3 reasons why you want to go to optometry school; 3 reasons why you want to attend IAUPR, etc. It lasted about an hr (barely). he also kept asking if I had any questions, which I had to think on the spot because I didnt have any. He also asked me what I knew about the school, and about PR. About 3 weeks after my interview I received an email that I was accepted, and about 2 weeks after that email, I got my official letter of the acceptance, along w/ a list of some other things that I still owe them. But anyway, i hope this answers your questions, if you have anymore pls feel free to PM me or write on here, i will try to check SDN from time to time. Good luck w/ everything!
