I know there are some weekend/evening programs that cater to older or working students. I think it would be interesting for current students (or former students) following this track to share their experiences.

Some things I'd like for you to share:
  • Did you initially apply to a weekend/evening program, or was your traditional program able to accommodate your scheduling needs by providing weekend/evening classes?
  • OT school is a top priority. How did you manage (and succeed) at time management?

Thanks!

I'm curious how people feel about weekend programs as well. I've been accepted to a weekend program and a traditional weekday program, and I am having a hard time deciding between the two. My main concern is that I will not absorb as much doing the independent study that is required in a weekend program. The back and forth that takes place in a class room seems pretty important to me. Being in class every other weekend will really cut down on that interaction.

I'm sorry I'm not really answering the OP's question but for students who aren't older and have to work, have children to raise etc. I would just recommend doing the weekday program. Ya it kind of sucks devoting so much time to the program but OT is pretty hands on and unless you have a compelling reason not to I'd just do the traditional weekday program. Otherwise if you're a really independent student and can hash it on your own just get a good mentor once you've graduated.

Discussing whether or not a student should be in a traditional or weekend/evening program is not the intent this thread. I simply want to here about students who have done this track, since OT does attract students who are older or have financial responsibilities that require that they have income coming in. Not everyone will have an ideal educational experience, but they manage to succeed and it's worth sharing.

Yep i know that already. Was just giving my 2 cents to people who had the choice between formats and had their doubts about weekend programs. Hopefully others can chime in as well. Bye now
