So I just wanted to post this and see if anyone else has had a similar situation...Next summer I'll be applying to vet school and hopefully I'll be accepted. The problem that I'm having is kinda odd...so my contract with the Navy Reserves runs up in April 2013. If I reenlist for 6 years in the reserves more than likely I'll put on anchors (E7) or I could apply for a commission, and I would receive a one year extension on my Post 911 GI Bill. The question I have is that if I did this, would I still be able to accept the HSPS and claim a hardship with the Navy Reserves to get out of my contract with them. Just wondering if anyone has an answer...If this did work out and I was awarded the HSPS 3 year then that means I wouldn't have to pay for a single year of vet school and I wouldn't have a break in service, both of which would be awesome...Anyways if anyone has any experience with this matter I'm all ears...

Cheers!

You're going to re-up for a promotion with no intention of serving the term?

No, no...sorry...what I was saying is that more than likely I'll make Chief first time around which would be next September, or if I so choose, after I complete my BS I could apply for my commission...the reenlistment has no bearing on whether or not I'm promoted...I was just saying that the reservist pay is pretty substantial for an E7 over 8 or O-2E over 8, and considering I really won't have another source of income, and they'll extend my GI Bill benefits it would be stupid of me to miss out on that opportunity...but the only way I get the extension for the GI Bill benefits is by reenlisting for 6 years...The thing is that would only pay for one year of vet school...as opposed to the HSPS which would pay for 3...I'm just unsure as to whether or not I could accept the HSPS considering I would already have a current contract with the USNR...
Sorry about the confusion in the prior post...

Hmmm. That sounds pretty Navy specific, and I'm not sure there are too many boat-dudes on this board.

Two options:

-That sounds like something to discuss with someone over in s4, or whatever your admin guys are called. I found this http://www.med.navy.mil/sites/navmedmpte/accessions/Pages/ContactUs.aspx which has a bunch of info contacts... but I didn't see a vet program while scanning the page.

-There's an army guy here, who posts rather frequently, who seems to know all the ins and outs of the entire process. Sadly, I don't remember his name. It's 'Army...something' Might be good to find him and drop him a message.

So, there's some half-information.

Armymutt25A?

Nice on the "boat dudes"....lmao...Yeah the Navy doesn't have anything to do with veterinary medicine...So going that route wouldn't be beneficial...I'll try and contact ArmyMutt25A and see if he would have any knowledge to share...Thanks for the help guys!

Damn quote thing didn't work out for me...lol...
