Hey guys,
I just wanted to know if there was anyone else applying for California University of Science of Medicine's Master in Biomedical Sciences program? 🙂

I got an email about it today and just submitted my application! Waiting for the follow up email to pay the app fee
 
Yay ! Another person! Good luck!! Have you heard any updates from the school yet and when did you submit your application?

I'm also taking summer courses -- i'm wondering if I should email admissions to "update" them on this to see if itll affect my chances of getting an acceptance. do you think I should? idk how this all works! lol

Hey! Thank you! I will be submitting my app in the next couple weeks! I have been getting updates from the school but that’s through me getting in contact with them myself. Reach out to admissions by phone or email them at [email protected]. They don’t have a portal that has everything centralized but if you call or email them they can definitely let you know what they have or do not have and possibly what process they’re in right now. For summer classes, I don’t think it is a biggie as long as their prerequisites are met before starting the program but it never hurts to ask!

Hi! Thanks for the reply 🙂 Good luck with your application and everything. Hopefully we all start to hear back soon. I applied last year and got a Skype interview with them but ended up not making it into the school. This year - their website took off the information about interviews so I don't think they're doing that anymore. Maybe this year it's just an acceptance or denial!

I emailed them just to make sure everything was submitted correctly and to ask for updates, and it seems that they review applications on a bi-weekly basis. Hopefully we will all hear good news back soon!
 
Does anybody know if this program has a good linkage to the school? Looking at the 2019 graduates more than half are in re-applying so I'm not sure of the linkage it offers

I heard From another student when I applied Last cycle that most of their students got into their MD program!

If you look at the 2019-2020 MBS SDN page from last year, people say it's pretty fast paced and difficult. But obviously it all depends on the person!
 
Does anyone know if they require the pre reqs to be completed before hand? I have a couple to retake and I still need Orgo 2 or Biochem.

Congrats! I also got accepted a couple of weeks ago. I submitted my paperwork and currently plan to attend, but I am still waiting for a response from some Texas programs to make my final decision.

Just curious, are any of you thinking of working part time or just school?
 
Anyone have any idea about housing? Kinda early still but I’d rather start looking already
 
For those accepted, how long until they got back to you from the time your application was completed?

I am a current MBS student and just got accepted to the med school.
From the first year MBS class, 9 had conditional acceptances going into the MBS program, and then 4 (i think) applied to the med school, 2/4 were accepted outright and the other 2/4 waitlisted with 1 making it off the waitlist. The rest of the class did not apply for the med school that year and waited for this most recent cycle

For this current year, most of my classmates that applied this year just had interviews last week so I don't have numbers yet on who has been accepted. A lot of my class is waiting to apply for this next cycle

I'd say the link is good if you're a competitive candidate. Still have to put up the grades, MCAT, and clinical/volunteer/research hours

Hi there @lomlan! I am still waiting for an acceptance to the school's MBS program as a pre-dental student. I had the skype interview last year but ended up not getting accepted. Do you have a pre dents in your program or are they mainly pre-med? Thanks for helping us all out! 🙂 Congrats on all your hard work and getting accepted to me school!

As far as I know everyone from my class is pre-med. I think most went into the program hoping for the connection to the med school

congrats on getting in!! i'm a current MD student who was one of the conditional acceptances into the MD program. just to clarify - there were eight with conditional acceptances (one person lied about it) and all eight of us got in. then we had another eight apply "fresh" and of those, two got in outright, two got waitlisted and both later got in, and four were rejected. two of the twelve total accepted students chose other MD programs so there are currently ten of our cohort finishing M1 now. so, twelve out of sixteen who applied ended up getting in = 75%, which seems pretty good. i know of only five other people from our MBS class who waited to apply until this current cycle and they all got interviews; i don't know who got in though.

How long did it take for you to hear back? Can you share a little bit about your stats and extracurriculars? Just want to know if I’m competitive enough for this lol

Hi! Congratulations! I was accepted as well and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone. I don’t think there’s a Facebook page maybe we should make one?
 
Hey everyone, prospective applicant here! For those who applied, do you know if there is a preference regarding letters of recommendation? I am wondering who I should ask. I was also wondering how quickly these need to be received in order to be considered, as I just found out about this opportunity yesterday, and my letter writers will be on a very big time crunch

I havent gotten accepted yet so idk how much what i say matters but... i submitted a science professor and a dentist that i've worked for/shadowed! i'm not sure if there is a preference though... hopefully someone else can answer this thats a current student!

Do you know if we need to submit a CV in addition to the personal statement? The application refers to the CV in the description of activities section, not sure if they wanted us to just list everything about our activities out in the application or send a separate CV.

Yes, you do have to do both. Fill out the application with activities and also email your CV.

Hey @jazzmetal ! I am a prospective MBS applicant. I had a question about the workload-- do you think it's doable to balance a part-time job (~15 hours a week) with the heavy course load if I constantly stay on top of my studies? I am also freshly out of my MCAT studies so I have at least a bare bones background on the class material. I know it will be tough, but is it possible? or is there literally no time for anything other than studying?


Also, I'm curious about what you meant by conditional acceptances vs those who "applied fresh." Do you mean that some students began the MBS program already being told they would be accepted if they could maintain a strong GPA/MCAT/activities? What do you mean by students who "applied fresh"?

Congrats to you too! I know for other SMPs previous students, admin, or faculty have made the Facebook page to ensure they’re letting in accepted students, so not sure I’d want to be the one to make it right now. But we’ll see if it’s not made in a month or so:happy:
 
@luluburger Since the deadline isnt until May 31st... do you think its possible to still get accepted later in May or does the class usually fill up by then? 🙁
