Are you a former student? The following is my personal opinion which you are welcome to entertain as you please. I would not recommend attending this program as it currently stands. While there is nothing inherently negative about the program structure and the faculty support, I believe that there are issues with student outcomes which is relevant for anyone interested in attending medical school. Ideally, SMPs should serve 2 purposes for medical school admissions: to enhance competitiveness at the home institution, and to enhance competitiveness at other institutions. First, this is a SMP that has little academic weight and prestige behind it, as you are neither taking classes alongside the medical students nor learning from a curriculum designed by a top ranked academic institution. Accordingly, it is unknown how other institutions view the rigor and preparedness that the program claims to offer as there is a lack of transparency concerning student outcomes and the specific schools that they have matriculated into. Second, per word of mouth, admissions for the medical school will be on a GPA and MCAT blind basis going forward. Take that as you will, but until proven otherwise, this presumably means that all GPA, including the master’s GPA, is omitted from the holistic review process for admitting candidates. This essentially defeats the purpose of doing the SMP for entering the CUSM program (unless you attempt the conditional admit pathway), as distinguishing yourself from others through academic achievement will not give you a competitive advantage against fellow SMP applicants or general applicants. Therefore, when considering the drawbacks that this program has with its lack of prestige and lack of home program advantage against its financial cost, I would recommend attending other more established programs with a transparent record of student success if you are interested in attending an allopathic school and/or attempting to matriculate into the home program. Otherwise, this is not an inherently bad program for learning.
Yes unfortunately. Of course, I recognize that I have a bias towards the program and the institution. Therefore, I would recommend to anyone interested in this program to draw their own conclusions about the benefits of this program after asking the following questions to admin and documenting their responses in writing for future reference. Are you a former student?
2025. MBS students who are accepted through the pathway skip the glide year and enter the incoming MD class. If we were to enter this program this year and be in the MD conditional Admit pathway, does that mean we would matriculate into med school in 2025 or would we have to wait for 2026?
There is no guarantee that anyone may be admitted through the conditional admit pathway. The MBS program has an agreement with the admissions committee that X number of seats in the incoming MD class will be allocated for current MBS students. However, the committee has no obligation to completely fill those seats and can choose to not admit anyone through this pathway. For example, if there are 15 seats allocated and 20 eligible MBS students applying, the admission committee can admit between 0-15 MBS students through this pathway. Is it hard to get into the MD conditional Admit pathway? Or is everyone who is eligible get in?
Hi, I just applied last week. I was wondering if you ever got an email saying that your application is complete? also how long did it take them to give you the acceptance since you applied? thank you!Hi everyone! I have been accepted into the MBS C/O '26 and I am truly looking forward to this opportunity. I would love to hear practical tips/advice on how to do well in this program while balancing out your mental and physical well-being. Furthermore, is there a Facebook or GroupMe for this class yet? I would love to connect with other students who are matriculating into this program and I am also looking for a housemate, please reach out if you are interested!
Hello There! I can perhpas help you get some clarification. I applied to the program on 3/28/25 and one of my LOR was missing which was then received and updated into their system on 4/25/25 almost a month after. Lastly my acceptance email came in on 05/05/25. With that being said I was contacted shortly after submission to let me know they received the application and sent the link for the 50$ fee. Afterwards I was contected sometime around 4/16/25 to let me know my application was up for review but is missing a LOR. I emailed them once my LOR writer informed me that they submitted the LOR and they replied by back to let me know they received it and put my application back on queue for review.Hi, I just applied last week.
