CUSM
Pros
  • Direct link to Arrowhead
  • Access to research

Cons
  • New school - no data on Step or clinical rotation success
  • Possible lack of cadavers

Western Pomona
Pros
  • Older, more established
  • More diverse clinical rotation locations
  • Kind of into OMM

Cons
  • Have to take COMLEX
  • Not the best Step 1 scores
Summary: I genuinely loved both schools and the faculty when I interviewed so I am truly stumped. I know there are more pros and cons, but these are the major ones that come to mind. Any insight is appreciated.

CUSM - Unless you want to practice NMM or are thinking about using it in a family practice setting, OMM will not be very useful to you. Then again, if you are dedicated to primary care, it probably won’t matter much to you which school you pick. In general though, it’s usually smarter to go MD over DO for research and reputation purposes - which will matter to you come match time. When I interviewed at Western, I spoke with some of the 4th years and heard that getting research there was pretty tough.
