As of right now I have been lucky enough to have been accepted to both of these programs. I think I want to do primary care but I’m not 100 percent yet.I was having a hard time deciding between the two so I made a list of pros and cons. I’m undecided still and figured I would get some other opinions. I believe all the info below that’s not my opinion is accurate, if it's not, please let me know.

KYCOM

Pros:
Established
Liked the feel of the school.
Would be a little cheaper cost because of the extras included in tuition (KYCOM Advantage).
Multiple years of 100 percent match rate.

Cons:
Only COMLEX info I could find was for level 3 and it was below the national average for first-time pass rate.
Very heavy emphasis on primary care, not sure if this could limit my options if I do switch to something else.
Heard bad things about the clinical years (not sure how true this is).

CUSOM

Pros:
Loved the feel, students and faculty were great.
Also have the mission of producing rural primary care physicians but primary care seemed to be much less emphasized than it was at KYCOM.
Seems like they are really on top of getting rotations ready and have produced some residencies already.

Cons:
Very new school, first class still hasn’t started rotations. To go along with this:
No COMLEX stats
No match list

Both schools have in common:
Pretty much equal tuition
Mandatory attendance
Dress codes
Are about equal distance from my family.
Have very nice facilities IMO.
Students seemed like they really liked each school.
Liked both of the towns the schools were in.

Does KYCOM actually have mandatory class attendance? If not, that would be a major factor for me over Campbell.

Where is CUSOM producing residencies at?

160+ already approved to date with negotiations for double that in the works.....currently they include FM/IM/transitional/derm/EM that I'm aware of
Southeastern Health
http://www.srmc.org/main/residencyprogram.html

That's what I found but I'm pretty sure there are more. @sb247 knows much more about this than I do.

That's awesome! I wonder if the whole process of creating residencies include having the health system and medical school apply for GME funding?

Now that is a tough decision. I really don't know what to tell you. A lot of things seem equal, and on the other side of things it is kind of hard to compare KYCOM to CUSOM because CUSOM has none of the usual data to compare with KYCOM. Normally, I could give an opinion, but in this case I really can't.

yes, the basic loophole is that hospitals that are new to GME don't count under the "cap" the GME funding has been under for years......so campbell is simply signing up new hospitals

Huh. That's interesting. Almost like a grace period eh? Well that's good for CUSOM. Does KYCOM already have GME in place?

Sorry, I have no clue.
Does anyone have any opinions about either of the two schools or about which they would choose?

I can't speak to KYCOM but I'll be happy to answer any specific CUSOM questions

As a student at KYCOM I never felt that they were "forcing" me into primary care. yes, that is the main focus, but they offer you opportunities like ortho surgeries, etc to give you opportunities and the feel for other fields out there. We also have clubs for basically every single major speciality. also class attendance is under reform and while it is currently mandatory no attendance is taken. I was also excepted to both of those schools, I obviously choose KYCOM. Money was also a factor for me though. It was 10k difference a year.
