I am in between CUSOM vs VCOM-VA and would love any input. I have significant ties to the VA region (my fiance lives here) but everything about CUSOM seemed better (facilities, rotations, sim center, service opportunities). I am really at a crossroads and would appreciate any feedback on the quality of both schools and experiences. I am gay and not Christian, although I don't have any issues with Christianity or anything so it wouldn't be an issue on my end. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Thanks in advance!

I am also deciding between multiple schools including VCOM Carolinas Campus vs CUSOM and I'm going to pick CUSOM. Here's why: great research opportunities, great service opportunities, fantastic board scores on both the USMLE and the COMLEX, NC residencies established by the school in FM, IM, Derm, OB /GYN, and EM, great rotation sites that are set up for you by a lottery system, and a 100% match rate every year since their founding. Additionally, for higher stat applicants like myself, they offer merit scholarships that can be renewed every year. Lastly, I just got back from visiting the area and although the school is rural, it's about a half-hour from Fuquay-Varina and Apex which are much less rural and I would call trendy. The only downsides that I can see are mandatory attendance and dress code which I believe VCOM-VA has as well. In the end, it's your decision alone but this is how I see choosing between a VCOM school and CUSOM.

I would pick VCOM-VA purely based off the fact ur fiance is there. Social/emotional support is invaluable. Also if you guys want to consider staying in VA, it would prob be easier to match in the local area if you went to a DO school in the given area.

facilities - honestly just looks a selling point, i am a student who did half of OMS1 and all of OMS2 remotely, facilities mean very little in terms of education/outcome...
rotations - outside of being super far away or the school making u figure most of it out yourself, rotations are really what you make of it
sim center - my school didnt really have one, I went to a neighboring school for a conference that had one and it was neat but i don't think my education suffered for not having it
service opportunities - pretty important but I am sure there are opportunities at both campuses if you look hard enough or put in the effort
board scores - literally up to you
NC residencies - if your fiance is ok with relocating or ok with doing long distance for 7-8 years
merit scholarship - that would be huge if it cuts down on COA

As a partnered person I'd pick where my partner is! Both of these places will get you where you want to go equally. Both of these are nice DO schools. I'd be happier in the long run to be able to stay closer to my fiancé easily!
