Quick question: at what point is it no longer useful for your application to do an away?

more specifically, when would the cutoff for an away rotation be in the following 3 scenarios?

    1) want a letter of rec
    2) want to improve chances for being considered for an interview
    3) want to be selected (assuming you had been chosen to interview already)

    thanks!

My input on this would be:
    1) September - letter will hopefully get written in early October, but this is truly pushing it. July/August are optimal.
    2) October (since most invites come in this month), maybe November
    3) January. Keep in mind that it's hard to do an away in December/January because you will also need to be interviewing at that point.
