Cutoff GPA

Which GPA do adcoms typically look at for cutoffs? I just verified my summer grades and it made my sGPA jump above certain cutoffs, but not my cGPA (I have lots of bad non-science credits from early in my college career). Should both GPA's be above the cutoff in order to be considered? Or is one GPA enough?

Depends on the school.

Some schools that have a 3.25 cutoff (sGPA/oGPA) have explicitly stated on admissions page they will consider it (if other aspects of your application make up for it).

Then theres other schools that have a hard 2.75 or 3.00 (sGPA/oGPA) cutoff as a floor. They won't consider your regardless if you don't have it.

First of all, thanks for the response!

Mainly I was wondering if it opened up my application a bit. I had not applied to RVU-COM or CUSOM or a few other schools due to their GPA cutoff despite the fact that I'd love to apply there.

I'm sure there are other schools that I'd have considered applying to if my GPA's were there--but those are the two that immediately spring to mind

Well Campbell doesn't look like a hard cutoff. Based on CIB it doesn't look like they have a hard cutoff but suggests a 3.2 (sGPA +oGPA). Past threads have suggested a cutoff of 3.0. I was rejected pre-secondary (both sGPA/oGPA is >3.4) so i think they stress fit for school.

I have zero experience with RVU-COM. A couple friends I have met on the interview trail have suggested that they stress stats more than other schools.

Yeah, I legit know a guy who got rejected pre-secondary from here. Non trad with a 3.0 GPA, but last 2.5 years were 4.0 and a 508 MCAT. He called find out about the GPA cut off and the school told him to not apply because he wouldn't make the cut off.

Agreed. I'm almost 100% sure it's auto rejection w/o glancing at the application because my friend had a 3.1, but with a 3.9 last 50 credits taken and he studied very hard for the MCAT and got a 518 an still got rejected.

Yes both need to be above the cutoff to be safe

This. Campbell and RVU-UT rejected my app with the quickness lol. They dont care about how bad ass you app is if you dont make their cutoff. Close to the cutoff will not cut it...
