I've always presented my CV in a cover but I've had people tell me just give them the CV without the cover or take it out and hand the cover back to me. I've heard a lot of people say the covers are annoying to take because they can be bulky.

That said at midyear I think I will still have them a cover. I wanted to go fancy but the fancier the bigger/bulky they tend to be. What are you guys thoughts? Also should I take my journal clubs off my CV they were done at seminar on rotations I don't have all of them on there just 4?

Also I'm not a traditional applicant. I graduated April this year. Did not apply last year. Mom had a serious emotional breakdown over my dad this time last year, family/financial support collapsed I was lost personally due to this. I had to focus on graduating and rotations. Also I wasn't sure of what I wanted to do last year this time. That said I'm in a much better place now 🙂

Also should I do business cards or networking cards. Since I'm not a student anymore and don't have a fancy pharmacy job I was thinking of just doing a networking card with my contact info and objective statement about me and why I'm pursuing residency. Then if I do should I use CV folder that also holds a card? I don't like using folders for my CV because then it has to be opened for someone to see anything as opposed to if you have the clear covers but those don't hold cards.

I do start a floater position with CVS after midyear.

Unless you're PPSing, you do not need a covered CV or business cards. In fact, most programs (including mine) aren't even collecting CVs, though some that I saw at Midyear last year did want one. Just prepare a CV without a cover and don't waste your time/money.

As far as presentations, it's fine to keep them. I still have most of mine on there this year.

Don't do covers. They are annoying and I will either hand them back to you or throw them out. Your CV is not made speshul by fancy covers, it is made interesting by what's in it. Besides, don't think it will get some place of honor or something - it will simply get stuffed in the same pile or same expanding folder along with everyone else's CV.

I simply don't get why people put journal club presentations on their CVs. They are so DUH! it makes me want to cry. And don't really add anything... and they are not so big as to be proud of - at least the ones I have been a part of, in any capacity. Maybe residencies place more weight on them, I don't know.

Business cards - it's OK to have them, it's OK not to have them. I don't find them useful when they come from students, though some people I know use them to remember people by, if they don't take a CV there. The best way is to paperclip it to your CV, if you do decide to use one.

We don't collect CVs at Midyear. Most programs are using Phorcas. All those pretty folders and covers got tossed or used by the residents last yr.
