This really, really, really sucks. I got a letter from case yesterday saying my application is on hold for now. I thought my interview went really well...guess I thought wrong. Does application on hold usually mean a rejection later🙁

Do they have rolling admissions or do they give out offers on a certain day in big batches?

You ususally get put on hold by schools that don't offer rolling admission.

All they said in the letter was that they offer acceptances october through march, and that they would inform me no later than april 15. By the way, what are batch acceptances?

It is when a school sends all their acceptances out at one time to everyone they are going to accept on that date. If youaren't in that group, then you may be in the next group they send out, and could be in any group between now and the time they put people on a waitlist. Many schools send things out on 10-15, 12-15, 2-15, 4-15 and waitlist people on May-15

CWRU is rolling.
Ok, well that means the OP could be accepted on any day between now and April 15. My friend was put on hold at a rolling school and stayed there from Nov till May. She now goes to the school as a MI.

Case *is* rolling admissions, *but* they told us when I was there that they only accept a VERY VERY few before January. So being on hold is just fine. (They way it sounded to me was that they only accept a handful of people) They do this because they don't want to fill the class up by Dec, giving those later applicants a better chance. Don't panic!

I'm a second year at Case. Two years ago I was put on hold until March, when they then told me that I was put on the wait list. Right after that I sent them a letter of intent and a week later I was accepted. Now while this may not be the norm, sending a letter of intent can never hurt as long as you are willing to uphold your word and actually remove all of your other applications.

CWRU has to offer 2x the # of spots (~300) to fill it's 150-ish spots. You have a very good chance of getting in off the waitlist, especially if you interviewed this early. BTW, are you out of state? CWRU is strongly Ohio biased because they receive a large grant if they keep the student body >60% Ohio.

just out of curiosity, are you out of state, or in-state? What are you approximate stats?

I'd really like to get an acceptance from Case, as my fiance's family is in the Cleveland area.

Hey, I got the same letter. I've also heard the same thing, that unless your application is quite amazing, you probably won't get in right away. One 4th year I talked to said that MANY of her class got in off the waitlist. My stats are pretty good (31Q 3.6) but I wouldn't put them in the "amazing" category. The Ohio resident thing definitely goes for you but isn't totally necessary (Dr. Kirby said the real ratio is more like 50:50).

I wrote them a letter yesterday saying that Case was still my #1. I did not say that I would withdraw all my apps everywhere else if I got in, even though that's probably what I'll do. That letter will come later...

Chin up, my friend. 🙂
