Hey guys, same old question. I am a senior neurobio with a 3.5 cGPA, 3.35 sGPA, and a 3.7 nsGPA. I just got my mcat score back today and it was a 24O. I am disappointed with that brutal score but there is nothing I can do about it now. My gpa is right at the average or above the average of a lot of schools. I have over a year of shadowing a variety of physicians. I have been working and am currently working as a phlebotomist at a private doctors office, so I am familiar with the medical setting and different insurance policies. I was also the scholarship chair of my fraternity and played a collegiate sport for two years. I just want to figure out my chances to gain admittance to any of the osteopathic schools.

I honestly do not believe you have a very good chance this cycle, especially applying this late. Your gpa is fine. I would study again for the MCAT, retake it, and then apply early next cycle. Your ECs are good so I think the MCAT is your only issue. There are several reasons for poor mcat results and I would suggest looking through this forum for some helpful hints and solutions.

If you can increase your score into the upper 20s you'll have a great shot at almost any DO school.

Goodluck! :luck:

thanks I figured thats what it would be, and even the possibility that my mcat score may get screened out. Its just unfortunate, because I feel like the rest of my application(excluding mcat) is very competitive even though the mcat carries a lot of weight.

If anyone else has an opinion or advice please feel free to share.

I think you have a shot... It is late but not too late. My friend was successful last cycle when she applied in mid September with not so great stats.

GPA is good, but MCAT is at the bottom end of accpetable. I predict you'll have plenty of interviews though.
