Hello SDN members
I am a canadian applicant interested in applying to D.O schools in the states. My question is what is the average GPA needed for D.O schools? I know they have a minimum requirement, but i can't seem to find their average GPA for an entering class. I am sitting close to around a 3.0, 3.1 overall GPA, but my science gpa is a bit higher than that (surprisingly), around 3.3. All my prereqs are as follows
Chem 1 and orgo 1: A
Chem 2 B+
Math: A+
Physics 1: C (took it in first year was pretty immature so im retaking it in the summer)
Physics 2: Taking it right now
Biochemistry: A (some schools listed they would replace this with orgo 2)
Neural systems: A-
Biology: C+ (should i retake it since its not a C-)
Microbiology: Taking it right now and aiming for an A-
I also have an upward trend, first and second year were pretty bad, 3rd and 4th i have managed to get around a 3.5 3.6.
I am also writing the MCAT this summer and the DAT to keep my options open, but my first choice would be D.O and then dentistry. If my GPA is lower than average, do you recommend me doing an SMP or retaking a few first year classes that i messed up on?
