After determining we needed a bit more online flexibility, the residents in Dallas have embarked on their own residency-related website.

While the site functions primarily as an internal communication and resource tool for our residents (most content password protected), we are excited about the momentum here in Dallas and thus hope to share a bit of that enthusiasm and vision on the site.

We're interested in thoughts/comments, and particularly if anyone has experience with their own independent, but residency-"related" sites.

Of course, the views expressed on dallasem.org are our own and do not reflect the views of our employer. 🙄

Greetings...I'm one of the second year residents at UTSW and I remember going through the residency interview process and wanting to learn more about the people that were part of the residencies I was interviewing at. On the http://www.dallasem.org site you can view bios of all the residents at the program here by going to the people section and clicking on the different residency classes.

It might be a great way for those of you interviewing to find out if you would fit along with the type of residents our program attracts.

Also if you guys have any questions or myths you want cleared up about the University of Texas Southwestern / Parkland Emergency residency program just send one of us a message or post on the thread and we'll try our best to give you guys the most up to date answers.

Cheers!
CP

Thanks for all the visits to http://www.dallasem.org... since our initial post here, we've had over 500 visits (350 absolute unique visitors) from 165 cities... with only 25% of those "bounce" (single page) visits. "SDN" is a clearly a powerful forum.

We're in the process of moving content from our weekly academic conferences over from an older "wiki" site... starting with resident case reports and core content lectures. We plan to make most of that material "publicly" available soon, and will post an update here.

Good luck to everyone during interview season (and don't forget to have some fun during the rat race)!

For those of you looking to rotate at a busy academic county program, take a look at our website to find out about rotating at ut southwestern / parkland during your 4th year. This will allow you to find out about our program and to get a great month of critical care experience in the ER.

During the month that medical students spend in our emergency department there are usually 1-2 teaching residents assigned to them that month whose only job is to teach medical students how to work up patients and do procedures. I did this rotation at the end of my third year as an away elective and fell in love with UTSW and the patients there.

Go to www.dallasem.org to find out more and to apply if you are interested...

Also for those of you working on choosing places to apply to with your ERAS application take a look at the website to learn more about our residents and program. The highlights include:
  • Greater than 200,000 patients between Parkland and Children's Hospitals
  • Level 1 Trauma center, Stroke Center, STEMI center
  • 9 toxicologists on faculty, 8 EMS/Disaster faculty
  • Multiple fellowships including Toxicology, Pediatric EM, EMS, Government Emergency Medicine Security Services (GEMSS), Practice Management/Health Policy, International Emergency Medicine, and EM-to-Critical Care
  • 19 residents a year
  • Overlapping 10 hour shifts (2 hours of overlap)
