Hey all,
I'm trying to figure out my schedule for the coming months and i was wondering--- do schools do weekend interviews? Or does it always have to be on weekdays.

Thanks!

oh cmon someone must know!

I have never heard of a school offering weekend interview days, but I'm not 100% sure they're not out there. All of the schools I was offered an interview at only had weekday options.

UTSW interviews on Saturdays. Place is pretty quite though and the only students that are around are tour guides and people studying in the library. I think a weekday interview is best, even if you are missing a few days of class.

none of the schools i interviewed at had a weekend option and even as far as weekdays go there's no general rule.

school a might interview tues and thurs only, while school b likes fridays. it's pretty random.

I interviewed at Drexel on Saturday, but they were the only school that offered me a weekend interview.

I interviewed at Loyola on a Saturday.

Harvard offers some Saturday interview dates. I wouldn't recommend it though. It was tough to get a feel for what the campus and students were like because hardly anyone was around.

Somewhat related question - when schools offer you an interview, do they give you a range of dates to choose from, or just give you one day that you have to come on?

It varies. I'd say about half of the schools that invited me to interview assigned me a date. The other half gave me a choice of a few dates. One of them (Tufts) had their entire interview calendar on their website, and you just chose the date that was most convenient for you.

They usually give you a choice of 2-6 days to come in, and even then you can usually call up for other dates if you absolutely cannot do any of them. Interview dates may run out quickly, however, especially now at the end of the season.

While grad schools often have interviews on the weekend, the med school process is much different. Grad schools typically have 1-2 interview events a year, while med schools interview constantly for 5-6 months - working on weekends for half the year is somewhat unfair to the adcoms, and you get a better view of the school on a regular weekday anyway.

How common is it to have so many interviews on a weekday that you miss too many classes and are at risk of losing credit for classes you are currently enrolled in? I can only miss like 4 class days for each class. So does that mean I can only interview at 4 med schools? If so, that really sucks. I hope I can get some weekend interviews for that sake.

Does your class meet every day? If not, you may get as many as 8 interviews in by scheduling some for MWF and some for Tu/Th. If you leave late in the day for the interview site, stay over, interview and leave immediately afterward you miss only one day of classes.

Also, some interviews will be Sept-Dec and some will be Jan-Mar (or later) so you get a few more "excused absences" by splitting between Fall and Spring semesters.

17,000+ manage to do this every year and most of them are in their senior year of college. Don't sweat it; you'll work it out.

Thanks LizzyM. I guess I am worrying about this for no reason right now.
