Hi all,

Long time lurker and first time poster here.

Sorry if this has been addressed before but I searched around and some of the residency threads about these programs haven't been updated in years. I was wondering if anybody has any first hand, ideally recent-ish info (i.e. rotating, interviewing, or especially working there!) about any of the following residencies:

- Georgetown
- George Washington
(especially these two)

- Johns Hopkins
- University of Maryland
(a little more info out there on these two)

I've always loved the DC and Baltimore areas and am looking at these programs pretty closely, but outside of their websites I haven't been able to find much info. I've heard rumors of George Washington's for-profit status impacting the amount of time physicians spend with patients, Georgetown's jesuit affiliation affecting a doctor's ability to write for birth control, trauma being hard to come by in DC because of fly-over restrictions near the white house, you name it. Hard to know what's true/up to date though! Any information would be very appreciated.

Completely second hand, but I've heard very good things from multiple people about U Maryland.

I've been out of residency for 7 years now... but Univ of MD is a fantastic training site. I did an elective there (I was there for two weeks for their old ED and then two weeks in their new ED, was very cool to see that transition period). Amal Mattu is absolutely fantastic as PD, and he is very well known.

I would not hesitate to go there. In fact it was my #2 choice (I ended up staying in FL where I did med school). Their grads are great. Great pathology. Balto is a cool place to live for a few years.

Was Faculty at WHC/GT for a few years, so I'm a bit biased.
GW is a four year program, if you're into that.

You can't go wrong. DC is a great place, that's where I'm from originally. Its pretty darn expensive, but you can't beat the culture and the food....

Good luck!
