Hey guys, I need ur feedback on this! I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT!!

So, I m really confused about taking my Mcats this year, which is august 5th (wouldn't that be too late tho?) Another thing is that I m lagging on my application process. I haven't started my personal statement yet, and still dont have letters of recommendations from my professors (thats because i havent even asked them about it yet). I can probably get all the application process done right after i take my mcats (thats if i take my mcats this year) and apply to med schools this year!!

i have a:
cGPA 3.365
Science GPA 3.390
non-science GPA 3.323

I want to take MCATS this year, but on practice tests, i m getting somewhere around 12/11/(07,08) BS😛S:V. Any inputs if i shud take my mcats this year, and score somewhere around a 30-32 range with that GPA and apply to med-school, or shud i wait another year, get mcat scores above 35 (cuz i need improvement on verbal) and bump my GPA up to somewhere around 3.55/3.6. Any inputs are welcome!! For once, i just want to take these mcats and get it over with, but on the other side, i wanna get into medschool in the first try!

On top of that, i have:
shadowing ~ 100 hours
Volunteer ~ 150 hours
No research though
Work Experience
Assistant TA for general biology
and i can get some nice letters of recommendations
i also have volunteering from outside america (a childrens hospital in a developing country).

Another thing, i have a huge upward trend in my GPA. the only semester i slacked off was my first semester of my sophomore year, where i got a 2.69. every semester after that, its been going up.
3.167,3.400,2.690,3.667,3.5, 3.950

and also, i dont think i completely understand the difference btw DO and MD schools, if there are any significant ones.

waiting for ur replies guys.

thanks!

haha thanks? i think a need a little more input than that! but thanks

You're clearly not ready for the bolded reasons... people are getting interview invites right now and you haven't even started your personal statement or asked for letters of rec, let alone have them completed. Take a year to do research. Like you said, if you want to get in on the first try, apply next year. If you want to get in on the second try, apply this year. Rushing your application = huge waste of money.

money is not the issue. and i know i have been slacking on my applications, but i can def get it done as soon as i take my mcats, considering i have a month before i apply to med schools and get my mcat scores. but u think i have the slightest chance of getting in with a 30-32 on the mcats and with that GPA i provided? and if any of u people can explain the difference btw MD and DO! i really dont understand the difference amongst them on a smaller scale, forget the bigger scale. also, which one is better?

your application is going to be late by the time you finish your PS and mcat and Lors and considering your stats are on the low side, it is a bad idea to apply this year. good luck

so most people are telling me not to apply this year, since i dont have the best chance to get in! does that mean i shudnt take mcats either till next year (early), so i have another extra year to study for them and snatch off a 35+ with extra prep? and my GPA will be around 3.6 with a 35+ on mcats, and additional hours of shadowing, volunteering and maybe incorporation of some research. and MD v DO!!

If you feel you will be ready to take it now and you recently completed all your pre-reqs i would say take it. Its good for a few years.

i m studying now! i m getting 30-32 on practice tests! and i didnt say exactly 3.6, its going to be somewhere around in that range 3.55ish! i did it all on myslice, assuming i get 3.9s the next 2 semesters!

You're not ready to apply this year. Apply next year! 🙂

Good luck, you have 12 months to take care of business 👍

Thats a pretty big assumption. How do you know you can pull this off? Your most recent semester looks good, but anything can happen. Just do your best, get a good MCAT score and apply next year when you have all of your ducks in a row.

its not a big assumption, its just a matter of realizing! i confess i wasted tremendous amount of time my freshman, specially first semester of sophomore year, but when its time to take care of business, its time. i m more than capable of getting 4.0s. i just never was motivated enough to put in the right effort, but i realized. i guess not in time tho! so, i shud just wait till next year and apply med schools early next year? or does it not matter when u apply?
