😕 WOW! I cant believe they said the adcom would'nt meet for a few more weeks! When I interviewed in December, they said that they have been interviewing approx 40 students per week. That means, at this rate they need to review ALL of November and ALL of December...over three hundred interviewee's! They are getting REALLY behind. Even if the adcom meets twice a week starting now, how many files can they possibly decide on in one sitting?? I'm starting to think that realistically we wont hear from them for a LONG LONG time. It is unfortunate because many applicants with multiple acceptances will be forced to decide before they get an answer and they will certainly lose a lot of good acceptees. Good Luck all. 👍
its true, they're behind. but as far as adcomms reviewing files, its probably not as complicated and tedious as you think. i know a lot of schools have a really simple way of scoring application files, point system, you get various amounts of points for your gpa, mcat, quality of EC's and LOR's, they might give you some points for the strength of your undergraduate school as well. adcomms or admissions officers give each applicant this rating. then, they have predetermined cutoffs for deciding who they'll even interview, but then after the interview you're assigned points for the performance of your interview, and they have another set of predetermined cutoffs for basically automatic acceptances. people who are above the cutoff get the acceptance offer. the adcomms spend most of the time reviewing people who are near their cutoff or for determining the actual numbers of acceptances/waitlists to offer. the process can be largely automated.
again, im not sure if nycom actually uses a system like this, but i do know of several schools that do. so it wouldn't be infeasible for them to go through things quickly.
from the students point of view, it sucks to have to wait for anyone who wants to go there. your decision may be coming at a significant financial burden if you're putting down huge deposits to hold a spot somewhere else. but from the schools point of view, they prolly realize they will undoubtedly fill their class with qualified applicants. enough people want to go there that if and when offered spots, they would go, even if having to eat the cost of a $1500 deposit somewhere else. I mean just look at what happens with waitlist movements in april, may and all summer.
Alot of allo schools aren't even rolling, Texas has their match system, in those cases you don't find out til March or even later. and again, then there's waitlists. Nycom will be fine. its ust going to be costly for a few more people who want to go there.
