Hi everyone,

This thread is for all taking the Part 1 written exam this yr. We have 3 1/2 months and I sincerely wish that all of you who are preparing for the exam give regular feedback of your progress thru this thread. I have just started preparation. We can make a time-table, finish the portion in 2 1/2 months, and do revision alone for the last month. I am also planning to buy Kaplan Q bank for the last month. Thruout our study time(i.e. 2 1/2 months), we can do weekly revisions..Sat and Sun is for revising what we learned Monday thru Friday. Lets work hard weekdays and take it easy on the weekends...🙂

We can discuss questions and doubts...we can support and encourage each other...we can be a team together and succeed together....

If everyone'a game, i can suggest a time-table...

Cmon guys, who is with me??

sounds good. i am also retaking pt1.

Well I would like to be a part of u're group but I was wondering will u be appying for the 2006 cycle? Because if u r u will be in a tight spot like me..I am giving the CBT for this reason..

At present I am struggling with anatomy and biochem..I don't know how people can just mug up the decks..I tried but can't..Biochem is driving me nuts so I started doing it from Lippincot..very slow but at least it is better than kaplan.

anyway would like to hear back from u and others..

And you can count on my input.

hi everyone.....

thanks for your response....LETS CRACK THIS EXAM!!!!

We have 2 1/2 months to study.

Materials - decks - 2202
Kaplan review notes - 986 pages
Question papers after studies
Text books for reference

I did some calculations. in order to finish the portion in 2 1/2 months, each week we have to finish 200 decks and 90 pages Kaplan. remember we r not including weekends, so each day we have to do 40 decks and 18 pages Kaplan.

In my opinion, we have to do all subjects together..just like the way we used to do in college..that way we wont get bored with a subject and day dream and lose time. we can finish faster. So 6 decks (incl both sides that means 3 questions!!)of each of the 6 subjects..makes 36 decks ..then do 2 more questions of any subject to make it 40!!..thats not bad at all...is it? As for Kaplan, 3 pages from each of the 6 subjects makes 18 pages!!

remember weekends are for revising and to finish what we couldnt during weekdays. Even if u cannot finish the days quota due to some reason, dont try to finish it the next day..u will fall back...so just mark it, and proceed with that days quota. then remember to finish it at the weekend. So the 2 days we are getting on the weekend is good to finish all backlogs. hey and dont get too addicted to SDN...😉

Iwould love to hear ur suggestions folks...gsk, moneeza, suvidhya...LETS START TODAY, SHALL WE?

Hey dr.internationa

hi gurminder,

we r doing 40 decks a day (incl both sides)

that means 6 decks(ie 3 questions) of each subject(we have 6 subjects right?) so that makes it 36 decks. then finish 4 decks from any subject to make it 40.

I have an extra copy of Kaplan review in CD. would u like to buy it from me? If u do, please send me a PM.

study hard. any other doubts..feel free 2 ask, ok?

Hello there,

I would be interested in buying any review material of Kaplan's or old exam like 99,00,01,02,03. If you have or know of a reliable source to obtain any of these, pls let me know. The info would be much appreciated.

Hi,
I am in a bind. I got my Part I scores today. I got mid 80's on all subjects except 74 in one (which is a FAIL!!).

It says on my report: Partial Failure: Eligible for Partial Testing"

Can I take just that one section in computer format at anytime I want?

Please someone who knows answer. I would rather just retake this section instead of the whole thing again, at least for this year.

Hello DrFun!
Yes, you can retake the one you have failed and you can do that on CBT Prometric, however if I'm not mistaking you have to wait 3 months from the date you have given your exam.
Good luck to you.

hi dr.international
thanks for the thread howz your prepration going on i am still stuck with text books dont know what to do?

hi rajbatusa,

The advice from students who have scored high in this exam is not to concentrate too much on texts..rather use it as a reference. All of us are studying from decks and Kaplan notes. Question papers are due after studying the portion.

Do u have all the materials?

Take care ...and good luck!

hi dr international
thanks for advice i have dental deck and kaplan review book and dont have kaplan notes how can i buy them?

guys i have a doubt in biochemistry..

which one of the following AA could serve as the best buffer at ph7 ??

glutamic acid
arginine
valine
serine
histidine

is the answer Histidine?

hi Dr.international

The answer is .....Histidine

At the pK, a buffer maximally resists change in pH and... Aromatic amines (like in His side chain) have a pK near neutral.
acidic amino acids have pKa's below histidine's, and the basic amino acids have pKa's far above

making it the only AA which can buffer near the neutral and biological(7.4) Ph

Take care guys,

Hi Dr.International,
Can I join ur study group too?I know I m a little late but I just Got my study materials today. Also can u tell me if you have already sent the ndbe application or are you doin it later if you are done with the preparation?
Thanks...bye

hi Prachi,
welcome to the grp...u r not too late..dont worry.

I have already submitted my applic for Dec 5 paper based test. If u r taking the PBT, u have to register before Oct 29, I believe. But its always better to submit applic earlier coz the seats get filled up fast and u may not get ur test center closest to you. If you are taking CBT, u have nothing to worry abt. For me, I needed a goal date to set my timetable...if i take CBT, theres always an option for postponing it...so i will tend to slow down..thats why I chose PBT.

let us know if the study time table i suggested is ok and if u would like to add anything...

Its a personal choice dentaldocCa...In my opinion, you dont need Kaplan course to get above 90. I am following decks, Review, papers and text books for reference. I am planning to join Kaplan Q bank online for a month. that will be during the last month when we will be doing revision only. i think that is more than enuf to get an excellent score....only thing we all shd be sincere and shd work hard.

take care...

Take care guys,

thanks for the explanation eyeforstars..... 🙂 i just had a doubt as to if histidine is the only amino acid which can act as a buffer near 7.

Thanks Dr.International.I liked your study timetable and I am going to follow just that. Also thanks for the ndbe information...I agree with you about the advantage of PBT over CBT in that regard.
bye.
