Finally got my letter and passed with an 82. Just wanted to share my experience with studying since this forum has helped me pass tremendously. The materials that I mainly used to study are:
1. RxPrep book
2. RxPrep CPJE
3. Weissman's practice questions
4. Quizlet
I focused heavily on drugs when I was studying. I used Quizlet to memorize brand and generic names of the top 1000 drugs and when I was reading the RxPrep book, I literally wrote down the names of every single drugs that I wasn't familiar with, and studied that list separately after I was done going over that entire book. Make sure to not only know the generic/brand names, but also know the indications, common side effects, monitoring parameters and doses (if they're emphasized in the book). As for topics, you probably already know, but definitely go through every single topics. I'd say the only chapters that are safe to skip are biostats, calculations and pharmacokinetics chapters as I didn't have any questions on those chapters. One of the chapters that can be easily overlooked is the chapter on skin/fungal infections towards the end (I think it's the second to last chapter in the book). In terms of clinical portion of the exam, I thought RxPrep was more than enough. I realized that it's not really about how many resources and books you have. It's more about how thoroughly you study and know from one main book.
When I was reading RxPrep, I also made a brief outline on all the big chapters with all the drugs listed out and the regimens. After reading the book around 4 times, I was studying my outlines at the end and I thought that was really helpful! A lot of ppl on this forum were saying that the best way to study is to write your own notes as you're reading and studying off of that later, and it was so true, so I wanted to emphasize that once more!
As for law, I read over the RxPrep CPJE book around 4 times and did all the practice questions from Weissman's. Weissman's book has a lot of information, but I thought RxPrep CPJE book did a better job summarizing and organizing the information, so I only mainly used Wessiman's book when I had to refer back while I was doing his practice questions. I thought his questions were pretty useful especially at the end after I was done studying for the law portion. It was good review/wrap before the actual exam. Definitely know all the years of how long you should keep the records for, when you should report to the board, how often you should do the inventory...etc.. BY HEART. These questions are supposed to be the easy ones that should save you! Oh and I would focus heavily on the laws on controlled medications/prescriptions. I had a lot of scenario questions on prescriptions of controlled meds, but they were pretty straightforward since I went over that chapter numerous times when studying.
I hope this was somewhat helpful! I wish everyone best of luck! 🙂
