'To spread the word that summer months pose particular risks to your vision, the American Academy of Ophthalmology has declared July as Eye Injury Prevention Month'

I got the above statement from the Yahoo Health link (eyes and vision).
First of all its nice to know that that the AAO is 'declaring' things like this,
BUT IS ANYTHING BEING DONE ABOUT IT? i.e, are free sunglasses being passed out to the needy? Are preventative information packets being sent out to patients that need them? What is being DONE in July thats different from all other months?? Is this declaration some sort of 'reminder'? ..its a pretty pathetic reminder if you ask me.

I can 'DECLARE' that my grandmother has cataract, but if nothing is being done about it, she'll be stuck with cataract for the rest of her life!! (am i making sense?)

Its one thing to 'declare' something, its another thing to 'do' something about it!
When I volunteer for Prevent Blindness in Texas, I dont just 'DECLARE' that its important to screen our community for any eye problems; NO, I DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, I GET INVOLVED......

If the AAO can declare a prevention month, they can also do something about it!!

Before you speak freely, perhaps you should know all the facts. July was the first time the AAO started collecting data about the eye injuries that occur and what steps can be done to prevent these injuries. The AAO is currently collecting and analyzing the data obtained from ophthalmologists around the country. Before we can "do something about it", we must know what is the problem and the predisposing factors.
