I know this sounds crazy, but I got into Morehouse and was really impressed with the school. Going into my interview, I didn't really have a rank of schools, and after interviewing at 5 schools, Morehouse was clearly tied for #1. I have an interview scheduled for next Wednesday, but I just got my acceptance at Morehouse this week. I know that interviewing is expensive and is taking a LOT of time away from classes, but I was wondering what your thoughts were about declining an interview...especially this close to the interview date, and I know that the interviews can really change someone's impression...but what are your thoughts about canceling an interview???

it depends on what you feel...if u feel like you would be the happiest at morehouse then u are allowed to cancel...just let them now...but the worse thing that will happen is that the school will withdraw your application (it's like dumping someone afer they already broke up with you🙂)...i think there are plenty of ppl who didn't go to all of their interviews.....it just gets to be too time consuming and expensive...so u just have to say to your self...would i go here over morehouse??? if your answer is no...then just don't go...

ooh i forgot...congrats on getting into morehouse!!!!!!

Congrats on your acceptance to Morehouse! I totally agree with dancinRN1022. Interviewing is expensive especially if the school is not close to your place and you have to fly, rent a car and hotel. If you really think Morehouse is the one for you after 5 different interviews, then I would pick the one that you are happy and determined on. I admire and applaud your objective view of the school rather on its ranking. A lot people would rather look at the ranking to decide, but not the school itself where they can develop their best work and potential. Being comfortable and happy in med school is much important rather than what ppl judge on you by name of your school 🙂.

This is a cost to benefit ratio problem. If you believe that the benefits of attending this interview outweighs the cost/time of getting there and being there, then attend. What you get from this interview is experience which, will likely solidify your choice. If the costs outweigh the benefits such as, you know that you won't go to this school, then make a phone call followed up with both e-mail and letter declining this interview. I am certain that someone who is sitting there waiting for an invitation will be grateful to you for doing this.

I can also tell you that there isn't much difference between LCME-accredited medical schools in terms of coursework and ability to prepare you for a career as a physician. You need to choose the school where you know that you can excel. This comes down to atmosphere and methods of teaching. If Morehouse is the school for you, then you are set and have made a wise decision. Morehouse is an excellent school and you can thrive there.

I can tell you that back in 1997, I applied to six medical schools and I was invited for interview at all of them. I was holding four acceptances when I attended my last interview but I went anyway. (My schools were within 200 miles geographically and thus there wasn't much of a distance problem). I also was not as certain as you appear to be that one school was going to be a good fit for me.

The experience of going on that last interview solidified my ranking of the six schools that accepted me. This was my experience but don't spend the money and time to interview if you are sure of what you want and need. It sounds like you are and thus, declining that interview would be a sound decision for you.
