I’ve been accepted, but I won’t be able to finish up my undergrad degree in time. I am not sure if I want to try to defer or not? Does anyone know the terms a deferral? I haven’t been able to contact the director of admissions and I don’t want to seem too pushy. It also dawned on me that I could jeopardize my acceptance by asking to wait a year. So, should I pay the deposit before I start ask about it to secure my spot? I’m confused. HELP!

what do you need to finish your undergrad for? just to have the degree?

I want to be able to take histology, med micro, and biochem before dental school. I'm nervous I won't do well if I don't have an introduction to those classes in undergrad.

Will they accept you if you DONT finish? What if you take a summer class?
I would talk to the admissions office about your situation.. I would hate to see you have to wait A WHOLE YEAR!

Just wondering, if you knew you didn't want to go this year, why did you go ahead and apply?

People that get accepted with non-science majors will be in the same boat as you. I think the coursleoad will be hell no matter how much preparation you have. 🙂 A year is a long time, but I also wouldn't want to start dental school with any doubts... it will be hard enough without adding stress about not really taking the classes you wanted to prior to matriculation. Good luck!

Yes, I've been accepted w/o having to finish. Summer class is a good idea, except that most upper level science classes aren't offered at MU. Thanks though!

Honestly, I didn't think I would get in and I wanted the schools to see my commitment when I re-applied. I think I need to be a little bit more confident. If non-science majors can do it, I should also be able too. Thanks for the encouragment.

Just go for it. It'll mean a little more studying but it'll save an entire year of work and then you'll just retake the same courses again.

just go for it. Those classes aren't going to help you a whole bunch anyways. From what I have heard from dental students is people who have not taken these classes perform just as well as the students who have taken them

I second the motion. Is your acceptance pending your graduation? If not, then I don't see any overwhelming benefit to delaying matriculation into dental school. Best of luck!
