So I got accepted to Ross University and am considering going there for veterinary school as it is the only one I was accepted to. I talked to a couple people who went there and said it was a great school. I unfortunately have to have surgery on my kidney this summer so I have to defer for recovery reasons. Ross University stated that they would grant by deferment but I was wondering if deferring means that I can not reapply to the vet schools in the US (I am a Pennsylvania resident and my first choice was obviously UPenn). I am not sure if vet schools would accept my application if I reapply since I already would have a spot saved at another school. Does anyone know if the schools look to see if you deferred a year at another vet school? Any advice would be great! Thanks!

You probably have to ask Ross if you're technically considered an enrolled student during your deferment or if they're just "saving you a seat" for the next class year. You have to put down on the VMCAS institutions attended but, obviously, deferment isn't the same thing as attending a school (you won't have a transcript).

Yeah it definitely depends on how the school handles deferment (deferral?), for instance I deferred at UTK and they still have me as an enrolled student. You could also contact VMCAS or Penn to see what they say about that situation.

Since you're deferring for medical reasons, will you actually be able to do anything to improve your chances at UPenn during your recovery year? Are you deferring a full year, or just until the spring or summer start dates? We have a couple of transfers from Ross in our class, so that might be another option to keep in mind.

A friend of mine got into MSU with me last year, but deferred for medical reasons. She reapplied to her top school (UC Davis) this past cycle and got in so she's turning down MSU. Not sure if the same will be true with Ross/UPenn, but just letting you know that at least one person has done it.
