First Aid states that 18-24 months, cognitive/social milestone is "Rapprochement".

What the hell is that? The "reestablishing of cordial relations". What does this mean in terms of an 18 month old?

Thanks in advance

From what I remember from HB, it means that the kid is alternating between being needy and seeking independence. Our professor described it as the "yo-yo stage" where the kid wants to explore things but also wants to cling to her mom. So, yeah, think obnoxious 2-year-old. 🙂

In High Yield, Fadem defines it as "a period of moving away and then returning to the mother for reassurance" - like swinging between autonomy and dependence.

Is google broken?

don't question my googling capabilities. i knew that google reverted New Orleans' pictures pre-katrina before the newspapers picked up on it!

just kidding.

i did and it yielded "reconciliation: the reestablishing of cordial relations", which i didn't get.

thanks for your rapid responses.

The only thing that I remember is that it's Mahler's theory and that it must be prounced in French. I am reminded of the theory everytime I see a post by MahlerROCKS (who told me that the name refers to a different Mahler, a composer or something) even though I never fully recall the theory itself. This is the best I could google...
