Use all the free resources available to you from SDN: articles, guides, expert advising, forums discussions, and school research.
Regarding the hard pivot, I'm unfulfilled and not intellectually stimulated. I want meaningful work with tangible results. Business is stale, unfulfilling, unpredictable/unstable and quite frankly filled with BS. While I'm sure medicine has it's BS, I'd be willing to put up with it to be able to see the fruits of my labor and a daily basis, use my brain and hopefully become an expert in something.
I think we are collectively giving you homework to improve your application. But your AMCAS submission in response to our feedback will be what matters. No, I'm not convinced you have clearly articulated your responsibilities at hospice or any non-clinical volunteering. You haven't given me a reason to push your application up for a potential interview. Your hours are light for a high-metrics candidate who wants to attend a brand-name school until I get more details.Beyond that, how do you think my application looks?
We're not hiring you to do work in a research lab. We want to know if you understand what the scientific method is, if you can read dull research papers, and whether you want research to be a major component of your future career.Thank you for the feedback. I'll make sure to incorporate into my application.
On a different note, what do you think of my research, particularly the experience from 4+ years ago? Do you think it will be relevant or will schools view my research as light given only 500 hours in the past year?
My other big question would be if your MCAT is still valid. There’s a big difference between taking it as a student and taking it as an adult with responsibilities.thanks for the feedback! how do you view my application otherwise?
I don't know if I would apply the word "unique" here. You're a non-trad with metrics, ECs, and work experience, similar to most other non-trads. Perhaps if you were a left-handed Olympic pentathlete nun. But anyways...WAMC as a unique non traditional applicant?
It would be better. This is where the MSAR can be extremely useful.Thank you for the feedback! Would a 20-25 mid tier and 10 max t20 school list be a better strategy? Why do you say dump Indiana and MUSC?
My thoughts are that your research and clinical experience hours are "fine" and will only be limited by the quality of your reflections.Thank you - are they not OOS friendly whereas USF, Miami, Cincinnati are?
Do you have any other recommendations to focus on for this final 5 month stretch before applying? Should I focus more on volunteering than EMT or research?
What would you recommend for a school list split? More low tier, total school #, etc?
MUSC has ~7% OOS, Indiana ~16%. Successful OOS applicants typically have very strong ties to the state.Thank you - are they not OOS friendly whereas USF, Miami, Cincinnati are?
