do you need a licence to practice as a dental assistant in the state of california ..?

you can be a dental assistant ,I mean work as a dental assistant just because you are a foreign dentist.
I mean I started working as a DA without taking any license,but If you need more money it's better take your RDA which means Register Dental Assistant.for being register you ned take the class or have at least 1 yrs experience as a DA.

But whats the difference between being an R.D.A and a D.A? Is there a difference in dental office duties or just salary?
