This coming summer I will be working with my pediatric dentist and he said he will probably let me do some assisting as well. I will be getting paid so I was wondering if I should count these hours as shadowing as well? or if they are in a different category?

Hi Mygyver;
I would say this is definitely shadowing and it will look great in your application. The purpose of them wanting you to job shadow a dentist is so you can see how a dentist spends his day at the office or how a dental office is ran, etc..it doesn't matter if you're paid or not as long as you go through the experience...so even if they're paying you, I would count it as shadowing also.

I think if you're getting paid, it's a job, not shadowing. The result is still the same if not better because you're getting real dental experience.
