Hey everyone,

Does anyone have any input whether the year of dental decks for NBDE1 matters? Someone offered me a set of 2000 for a much reduced price and was wondering if it's worth it.

Thanks

Some people will likely tell you it doesn't matter, but IMHO it does make somewhat of a difference. When new NDBE tests are released, the decks people come out with a new edition because they update the cards to include all the newest questions/concepts on the tests. If you only want to pass, the 2000's are probably fine, if you wanna rock it, you may want to consider purchasing a newer edition. Of course, if you wanna rock it you might need more than just the decks depending on how much of a review you need.

How well you do NBDE1 depends less on what study materials you have, and more on how much you put into it (or have put into it the past 2 years). I took boards this summer, studied the 1998 decks, and got a 94 avg.

It'd be interesting to know of all the versions that are out there.

2004
2001
2000
1998
1995

Any others y'all know about? (I'll update the list if so.)

This was my experience as well. Used 2001 decks, reviewed all the released exams and other study aids and did fine. There is very little difference in the 2001 and 2004 decks from what I've seen. I wouldn't depend heavily on the decks though if you're aiming for a 90+.

2000 edition doesn't exist, from what I understand. The Decks are only updated every 3 years, although the 2001 edition did have a printing change (removed the red background on the backside of the card) midway through 2002.

1992 was the year the company was founded/first Dental edition.

This was several years ago, but I used an "outdated" version and scored in the 90s like I wanted. The guys that make the decks are 2 dentists who weed through the old released exams and make note cards out of common topics. These are the same released exams you can buy from NBDE or whoever. In other words, they have no more insight than you or I in predicting what will be on your exam.

just buy the newest ones.

either way, you will end up selling it for about $20 less than what you paid.

pay $80 for 2001 edition, then sell it for $60.
pay $120 for 2004 edition, sell it for $100.

think of it as a $20 rental fee.
