Ok, so I've researched this and some have told me what they "think" to be true.

So here's my situation...

I was accepted at Loma Linda on December 3rd. My home school called me this week (in Mississippi) and they want to give me an interview on Jan. 13th. If I get lucky enough to get accepted at MS (way less expensive)...is there a certain date I can get back to Loma Linda (and decline) to get a portion/all of my deposit back? I sent in my deposit the other day ($1,000) because it has to be there before 30 days is up, which would be January 3rd (before my interview at UMC).

They should have included details about this with your acceptance. Some schools will refund it, some partially refund it, others won't refund at all.

Exactly. Read your acceptance letter. You shouldn't have to go off of whatever anyone else "thinks" to be true. I'd bet that it is fully non-refundable, though.

Just think of it this way: you're paying $1000 for the peace of mind that comes with knowing you will be going to dental school next year. That's less pressure on you for your Mississippi interview, and if that comes through consider yourself doubly blessed.

Thanks doc!!!

Everyone else...thanks as well. I will call the school, but as someone said it is totally worth it to make sure I am in somewhere with 100% certainty. Happy Holidays to you all.

I still haven't received my acceptance letter...but I sent the deposit in the mail yesterday. I was sort of expecting it to be non-refundable so no big surprise.

And, I totally agree on it being worth the peace of mind...but it would be really nice if they gave a little of it back if we notified them by a certain date. Oh well, I just feel really blessed to get the acceptance at this point and Loma Linda is a great school!

uh...ask them?

I'm just assuming they're closed today, and I didn't get a chance to call yesterday (was @ work until 7 last night). Doc toothache's post was informative enough for me. I will just assume that it's non-refundable (as his info indicates) and if, somehow by chance, I'm lucky enough to get a deposit refund, be really happy.

If that were the case people would be putting multiple deposits until couple days before the schools starts... b/c they know they are going to get the refund. And it wont be good for the school to make decisions on the spot, and start pulling people of the wait list. Instead of accepting qualified applicants...

the deposit would be counted towards your first year tuition.

Very good point, I never thought about it that way. Basically, people could just deposit everywhere and not commit. That's what the whole point of the deposit is I guess. Thanks!
