Hi guys,

I'm an incoming D1 and I have a chest/half sleeve tattoo I got about a year ago similar to the picture below with the same length on the biceps/triceps area. It does show a little on my arm when I'm wearing a shirt or scrubs especially when I reach for something or raise my arms up. I was looking through my school's uniform policy and there was no information about having tattoos. Anyone else in dental school with the same type/length of tattoos? How did you go about it? Just wear long sleeves under the scrubs all the time?

It's a different time. Tattoos are more socially acceptable.
Im also an incoming D1, but I would say make the extra effort to cover them up since you are in a professional setting, but I doubt you will get in trouble for them. It's not like you have "Thug Lyfe" tattooed across your throat.

Thanks. I was hoping for someone to say something like that. I'm also worried about treating older folks who may need dentures from me. They might have the old school mentality of tattoos = evil. But you're right, I'll make the effort to cover it up since it is a professional setting.

off topic but you have a rly nice body

Thank goodness we wear gloves because I have "f*** you!" across my knuckles.

I was actually wondering the same thing because I wanted to get a tattoo on my forearm for the longest time. I'm also the type of person who was just going to do it regardless, to be honest.

You can have it tattooed on the lip, then only your dentist will see it.

At multiple interviews I saw dental students with visible tattoos so I don't think it'd pose much of a problem

You mean you followed up and keept tabs on tattooed/non tattooed accepted?

Trying to impress the girls on sdn?

Why? Are you impressed? There's no one to impress out here and I don't think I would want to post my actual picture so people can identify me by my tattoo.

I would think most guys wear long sleeve button ups and sports jacket. I never seen anyone wear a regular button up shirt on any of my interviews. What part of their body was visible? Or are you talking about the ladies?

I meant current dental students which gave the tour. One guy had a visible chest piece and I saw multiple girls with wrist tattoos.

Keep in mind that your school may not allow you to wear long sleeves under your scrubs. My school requires short sleeves that cannot be visible from beneath the scrubs.

My school has no policy against tattoos or piercings. That said, we have a policy of "professionalism." IMO as long as your tattoo is covered to the best of your ability you will be fine. Do not worry about it being somewhat visible, but I advise against wearing anything that purposefully advertises your tattoo.
