"Please note that the 2010 AADSAS application cycle will begin June 1, 2009. Individuals who previously applied to dental school through the 2009 AADSAS application cycle and wish to re-apply for the 2010 AADSAS application cycle must complete an entirely new application. Application data from previous AADSAS Applications are not carried over to the current application cycle. You must submit a new web-based application including all new required documents."

DAT scores will be recieved by the schools about 3 or 4 weeks after you take it. So May 1st is the latest you will probably want to take it.

soo since before we had half a month to prepare the aadsas before submitting it (since we couldnt before june 1), now we have to try to fill it out and submit it like within as few days as possible?

i got an appointment for May4th.. would it be horrible to push it back to May 11th (same day, just 1 week later)..?

plus, since these are computer based, arent the scores available right away?

im planning on applying ON june 1st and want everything ready to go basically

thanks for the help!

Well the application may still open on May 15th. This past cycle it opened on May15th but AADSAS didn't mail out anything until June 1st. Officially June 1st was their first day because that is when their letters went out.

FYI schools get your DAT scores independent of you AADSAS so don't fret your test time and AADSAS application.

No they do consider you and it is possible to get an interview even before they get your DATs, but obviously you wont be accepted without it

Wrong on both counts. I don't know why people think that you could only hit submit on June 1st in previous years but you definitely could submit before then (I did). Yes AADSAS started mailing stuff out around the beginning of June because they had already processed the applications for those people who had hit submit BEFORE then.

It is not complicated: AADSAS opens June 1st, not earlier, NOT May 15th. June 1st is the first day THIS YEAR. The whole point of submitting early is to get it there first not to get it there before some arbitrary date. Just submit it within a few weeks of the cycle opening (remember, June 1st this year) and you are way ahead of the majority of applicants.

So to reiterate they key points:
  • IT OPENS JUNE 1ST FORGET MAY 15TH
  • You CAN hit submit the first day you apply if you want to
  • The schools only get it when AADSAS mails it to them, if you want to be in the first few mailings hit submit within a couple weeks of it opening (JUNE 1ST)
  • You application gets sent once you hit submit and your transcripts are verified. They don't wait on LORs or DAT scores to mail them to the schools
  • You can write your DAT after you hit submit, and send your scores later.

So, LORs can be sent in after submitting?

Can transcripts be sent it (but not verified) before you submit your app?

Do you have to wait until June 1st to send in transcripts? (I think I remembered something about matching forms?)

Ok you have to wait until June first to submit ANYTHING because that is when the cycle opens and if you just randomly send info they will have nowhere to file it because you have no file.

Yes you can send in LORs after submitting
Yes you can send the transcripts before submitting (but after you open your app on June 1st so that you have an AADSAS ID)

my university gathers all my LORs and sends them out for me. how do i know exactly when they send it out?

You still have to tell them where to send and give them the matching form. Outside of that I don't know how much control you have over how quickly they send them - maybe you could try emphasizing how important it being in early is?

Keep in mind that even tho you want to get your app in early, not getting it in on June 1 doesn't ruin your chances. Just get it in soon after and you'll be good to go. Having everything ready to go (PS with less than 4500 chars, coursework, etc...) will greatly speed up your submission process. Best wishes!!

is the PS still the following:

Your Personal Statement should address why you desire to pursue a dental education and how a dental degree contributes to your personal and professional goals. (4500 character limit, including spaces)

Havent started writing it, but have all the ideas in my head. about how many pgs is 4500 characters btw?

Approximately 1 single-spaced... but I was wondering, do a lot of people use two spaces after a sentence or one to save some extra characters?
