My wife and I just got accepted to dental school. We have no savings and our parents are offering us no help. Since we have to include our parents income on the FAFSA form and our parents have substantial income, therefore we will be getting very limited help. We have double the expenses and I was wondering if anybody knows what we can do.

Do you have any advise for me mpp??

Thank you!

When you say 'your wife and I got accepted to dental school' do you mean the both of you will become dentists? If so, then you really don't have double the expenses. You are in better shape than most married dental/medical students. You will be eligible for double the amount of aid but can share living expenses. I would suggest you work out a budget for your family listing all your expenses (including dental school tuition, fees, etc.). Then contact the financial aid office at the dental school and ask them about how financial aid works for married students. Explain your situation and see if they will have aid available for you. It will likely be in Federal Stafford loans, and if required, some private loans. If some of your living expenses are too high for aid to cover everything, you might have to 'downgrade' to a bit lower standard of living (e.g., trade the Lincoln Navigator in for a Kia). Good luck...

Why do you have to report you parents on your FAFSA? I didn't include them on mine...so it is something worth looking into. If you are already accepted...which I believe you said you are...your best bet it to call your school financial aid dept...as they can best direct you and help you with any issues such as these.

I learned to LOVE my Finanical Aid dept...and they made my life WONDERFUL....

Just a thought....

mpp, to answer your question. we will both be attending dental school (we will both become dentists) We will be attending our state school (NY) to save money on tuition. The financial aid dept. says there is no special financial aid package for us as a married couple attending school together. any other ideas???

Thanks for your help!
