Hi pre-dent colleagues. Two questions:

1. Do any of you know which dental schools require Microbiology as a prereq?

2. Does it need to be any Microbiology level or there is any specific one?

Thanks,

Jarry

On each school's website you can find out who requires it. Out of the schools I applied, only Michigan and Washington required Micro and both were for one semester's worth.

Check out the websites of your top schools. Take some initiative, and do a little research, it's easy to find.

I think UF requires it too

Yea, Florida requires Microbiology AND Genetics/Molecular/(a biology that emphasizes molecular concepts)

Does anybody know if lab is a required component of the microbiology prerequisite? At my school, lab and lecture are two separate courses...

U of Michigan Requires Microbio, Biochem, Psychology, and Sociology.

Thank you. However, that doesn't quite answer my question.

My school offers both biochem and microbiology AND biochem lab and microbiology lab. So, I can take microbiology with a lab, or without. As well as biochem with a lab, or without. Which would be best? Do you really need to take the lab component for either of these courses?

well.. its gonna depend on how many credits the dental school requires. For example: If they want 4 credits of biochemistry and your college is only offering a 3-credit biochem course, you should take the lab so you can bring your credit hours above 4.

Nova requires Microbiology. And they now require Biochemistry as well.

If we submit our application in June and indicate that we'll be taking Microbiology sometime in the coming months, will they still consider our application or will they just throw it away because it hasn't been completed by the time they received it?

You don't have to have all your prerequisites finished at the time your applying Justin. I just took Microbiology this last quarter and still got accepted to Michigan before I even took the course.
