I won't even talk about what John Edwards was doing to make his $$ before he became a Senator either 😱

Right, because the Bushes made all their money only by old-fashioned, feel-good, down-to-Earth, Christian hard work. 👎

i'd probably vote for bush...
if the guy could just stop starting illegal wars, killing people and propagating this culture of fear....

but hey..
..that's just me.

You're using false logic and drawing parallels where they don't exist.

Dr. Jeff NEVER said he didn't have a problem with the way Bush made his money--but that isn't a point of discussion in regards to our profession.

Edwards suing healthcare professionals (US!) is a valid point of discussion.

Don't twist logic around to make your side look better. When it comes to healthcare professionals Bush is the superior choice. When it comes to other political views, other candidates might fit your bill better.

You're right, it is just you. Excellent spin, I might add. Let's keep this focused on DENTISTRY or I'll move it.

Give me a break! First of all, I don't have a "side." And just because you don't think my statement is a "valid point of discussion," doesn't mean I was twisting logic.
I don't particularly appreciate you posting about how "Bush is the superior choice," and then following that by a threat to move the thread if the rest of us underlings don't bow down and submit to a long line of Bush-worship.
But to get this back on topic, I would argue that a Bush presidency hurts us all (as professionals) in the long run due to the consequences of his economic policy (or lack thereof). What good does it do us to have lower taxes if our patients don't have jobs and can't afford our services?

?

I never said anything of the sort. I said keep it focused on DENTISTRY. That means leaving "illegal wars, killing people and propagating this culture of fear" out of the discussion unless you can tie it directly back to our profession.

The latter part of your post, regarding the economic policy, does a good job of that.

ALL viewpoints are welcome, but if this turns into a sheer conservative vs. liberal thread, then it will get moved, regardless of what political affiliations I have.

what!???
so basically it is all about tax write-offs and $$$$$$$$$?

part of being a healthcare professional is having compassion.
..dentist do not get a pass.

i apologize if there are people out there unable to make that connection.

ItsGavinC,
you are wrongly assuming it to be "liberal vs conservative".
i am a registered republican...and the farthest thing from being liberal.
i just happen to have this annoying habit of thinking for myself.

the issues to me is about "right versus wrong"...
my most post pretty was pretty blunt.
...and as someone that will be affected by the outcome of this election, my post was entirely relavant.

there is more to to selecting a "leader" than which canidate gives more "kickbacks"...

relating back to "greed" and capitalists....
...those feelings arise because some folks appear to put more of a value on the green stuff....than they do on "people".
is that true?
i do not know.

as a registered voted from a family that traditionally voted republican...
...i''m curious to know what in the kerry platform is so offensive to us future practicing dentists?

to add..
(this is for practicing u dentists)

what has changes has ANY of you've seen in your practice when we've had a democrat or a republican president.

i will take the stretch and say NOTHING.
nothing was different. NADA.

for those of you voting (hopefully all of u folks are registered)

vote based on foreign policy, the envionment, education....that type of stuff.
it's silly that a statement was made that canidate "a" is "superior" than canidate "b" for dentists..

I love how politics brings out the best in everyone..... 🙄

So, where is it I can go to talk about treating my patients and stuff?
Just kidding around, don't want to offend anyone. 😉 😀 😉

Yes, in this forum in regards to this topic it IS all about how politics will change the business aspect of our profession.

Not at all when viewed from the standpoint of a small-business owner, and somebody who is in the line of fire for lawsuits, as well as somebody that deals with insurance companies on a daily basis.

Once again, we are limiting this to how the election will affect dentistry and the dental practice.

kerrydds06 said:
1. Bush wants a cap on "suffering " claims in lawsuits, which helps us in the unlikely effect you get in a suit. This will definately lower malpractice fees and more importantly, make lawsuits less "appealing" since the benefit is reduced.
2. The republicans generally lower taxes for our tax bracket. Some of us will be in that top 1% .
3. Bush small business package/ stimulus will make it very appealing for us graduating soon to start our own practice. This is what had me sold!
The rest of the BS dosn't really affect me.

Right on 👍 I couldn't have said any better!

What have you been reading or smoking? I didn't know there's such a thing as a legal war 😕 "killing people...culture of fear" You need to choose your words and thoughts carefully! Did you see the mass graves which were digged up in Iraq? See those people jumping, celebrating on the streets when the Twin towers came down? Everytime when I get into a plane, I hope that there isn't one of those crazy fuks on the same plane.

Bush should just focus on Afghanistan, weeding out terrorists first instead of taking on Iraq at the same time. Everytime there's a war going on, the economy always turns to ****.

I thought that votes are based on each candidate's promises on improving the economy, health care, education (just found out that I've maxed out my Stafford loan, had to get alternative loans, &@)$&$%), "winning the war on terrorism", then foreign policy, the environment....Can't fight the terrorists on an empty stomach!

People and special interest groups vote because of what the candidate promises he can do for that individual/special interest group. Remember "Change, change, change..." with Bill Clinton? and "it's the economy, stupid" Whoever can convince me about their promises will get my vote.

I vote to bring back Bill and Monica. He'll straighten this mess out, and she'll straighten it out too! Screw those politicians who voted to impeach him!

Oh, I do have compassion. I had volunteered before dental school and I plan to volunteer after grad. Sure, money isn't everything, but it sure can buy you a hell lot of stuffs, putting your kids through college; they won't have to worry about when is the loan check coming in.

P.S I hate those clueless protestors, hippies, long hair, flag burning, pot heads, so called war expert/analysts comparing Iraq to "another Vietnam" wtf do they know about Vietnam, eating Chinese foods doesn't make you an expert about Vietnam.

Just had to say something, this heat is making me crazy! don't mean to offend anyone, but if you are, oh well, I can't please everyone!

were ANY iraquis....OR any afghans among the accused terrorists?
concerning "illegal"...we invaded a soveign nation WITHOUT a UN mandate...
...unilaterally.
and then u say nothing illegal?
so was nazi germany blitzing poland legal?
whats the difference?

if anything we should have attacked Saudi arabia...since ummm...that's where the terrorists were from.

it's amazing that people just dont seem to care that 1000 american brothers lost their lives....and many still in iraq have no idea why they are still there.
??

read my previous post about "culture of fear"...
..in any war, you NEED bad guys...you NEED boogiemen.
if u are gonna landgrab for natural resources...we gonna have have a darn good reason..right?

read your post again..and maybe try again later.
if u want me to rip your post point by point...just pm me and i will.
i'm trying to save u the embarrassment.

Wow, that's impressive! now you're comparing US to Germany? That is very offensive! You need to be punished! So where are the hiding/training grounds for terrorists?

Now that you mentioned it, yup, they're next! Actually, in this case, we need to bring in Donald Trump! Trump is the man for doing the negotiation! no need for violence! I'm a lover, not a fighter!

Do not put words in my mouth :meanie: A buddy of mine (in medical care unit for the Marines) just came back from Iraq. He said that you can get shot from walking /sitting around! I still have friends from high school still in Iraq! Again, what's amazing is that you keep assuming/generalize/putting words in other's mouths, not including the very poor analogy!

Uhh ohh, getting personal, aren't we? "bring it on" (Senator, John Kerry) well, unless you want a date, there's no need to pm, baby!

Oh boy, this is just too easy and just not very intellectually challenge and so irrelevant! I give up! you're just not very receptive! you really let me down. I just can't bear the pain anymore!

P.S. Here's the definition for ANALOGY:
1 : inference that if two or more things agree with one another in some respects they will prob. agree in others
2 a : resemblance in some particulars between things otherwise unlike :
b : comparison based on such resemblance
3 : correspondence between the members of pairs or sets of linguistic forms that serves as a basis for the creation of another form

if your home was invaded by foreigners...friends and loved ones were killed...
...what would YOU do?

I'm sorry I started this thread in here. Online politics always gets too personal. I'm all for a good rough and tumble debate, but I have a feeling this thread is going to ruin some of the friendliness that seems to dominate the dental forum. If you want to move this thread to Everyone, Gavin, you've got my support.

Leave and go to the better and right country like YOU did.

If you hate this countries policies and morals, why are you here?

Baby, I'm just here to help! I want you to know that I tried! but I already cut my losses and moved on! There's nothing more to say b/w us 😀
You know, it's a crazy world out there, a dod eats dog world; the trees and sky are not always "of blue" clouds are not always "of white" "...and roses are not always red. Things are not always black and white, you know, sometimes off white, greyish... 😀 Ever wonder why those countries which were against the war now want to jump on the bandwagon of "rebuilding" Iraq?
I know that you don't want to admit that you're not right! but I still like you and accept you for what you are! and I think that you like me too, you just don't know it, yet 😀 I'm a very nice, likable guy, and I just happen to be right in this case 😀

that said i have always been 100% against an immoral AND illegal invasion and now occupation of iraq...

toothcaries said:

I would get the hell out of there and move to the USA The land of freedom and a hell a lot of opportunities 👍 You can have screwups after screwups and still come out on top if you try hard enough! yeah, try poking fun at the President in Iraq/Afghan/China/Vietnam... and see if you're still around the next day!

"The grass is always greener on the other side" Don't get me wrong, we still have problems here, age/sex/race....discriminations here and there, that's why there're laws against that. People complaint, b!tching about this and that but fail to realize that here we have better freedom, standard of living....than MOST of other countries.

Back to the point, seriously, I undertand your point! Nobody wants wars, their love ones to be killed. But look at it this angle, the women are treated like dirt, or at the very least are not being treated with respect in Iraq and Afghan. They kidnap people and beheaded them just like it was the norm. There was a woman competed in the Olympics in track & field. An Afghan man said he would kill her if that was his sister. What kind of an animal is he? I can see his religion & belief but come on, his country sent her over there to compete.
We're not there because of the human rights violation but in the long long run these countries will be better, at least in the human rights aspect, damn I really hope so for their sake!

Like it or not the troops are there already! I'm sure if they had a choice they would rather be home with families. Ever wonder why do we still have US troops all over the wolrd? So again, whoever can convince us with a better plan for the economy/healthcare/education/taxes and getting most of the troops the hell out of there without loosing the battle will win the election. Don't be distracted by other useless facts/bs/spin doctors. Don't vote for Kerry because you can't stand Bush or vice versa. I vote for whoever has a better plan/ promises for the country, and pray that those promises will come true! I don't give a sht who is a family man or who didn't go to Nam.

Immoral and illegal? So you would just prefer more mass graves? Since when is it immoral to set people free from a ruthless regime? "Occupation" is just part of the whole ugly picture and there's no way around it. If we just left as soon as we were done toppling the regime, then we would be accused of "abandonment" instead of "occupation."
