Anyone from Atl, GA and/or can give any inputs on the growth of dentistry down there?

If you live in an area where dentistry is becoming saturated, which direction would you push? south, west?

Atlanta is OK right now as long as you don't go to Buckhead or Alpharetta. The hot places right now are south of Atlanta heading down towards Macon. Those places are booming and dentists just aren't going there. At least that is the word I have heard going around.

Now, don't let the secret get out but GA in general is a good place to be as a dentist right now. Nearly every county that isn't Augusta or some ritzy part of Atlanta has a dentist to population ratio that dentists in other states would kill for.

this is true for many states. Stay away from large cities and go towards middle size cities and emerging cites and you will flowing with patients.

Same can be said about many place in Florida, even california. There is alot of old people in florida. You can make a killing in this state too.

So dont let, dentist to pop ratios decide where u practice

my parents live south of atlanta (Henry County), and that area is booming big time. There are barely any dental practices there! At my interview at MCG, we were given a quick rundown on the areas in GA where dentists are needed and what CorneliusFudge stated pretty much sums it up. GA having so many areas with little dentists is the primary reason MCG Dental school only accepts GA residents...their hope is to keep as many graduating dentists in the state and not moving away.

any are inside the perimeter is super saturatied with dental offices. I wouldnt open a practice there unless i knew spanish, vietnamese, or chinese fluently. Areas like south georgia is starting to grow and a demand for dentists are rising. we can also say the same for areas like Suwanee, Cummings, and Gaineville. this is all if you decided to open up a new practice. But for buying a practice... I would definitely buy one from the Metro Atlanta area.

That is true; i forgot to mention that another potential reason for keeping dental students from MCG in GA is because of all of the dentists that will be retiring in the future. This is good for new GA dentists because you will have the option of buying a practice from retiring dentists.....i say it is looking pretty good for future dentists in GA.

This is very good news. I visited Atlanta last year, and I think it is an absolutely beautiful city with a lot of southern hospitality. I had been playing around with the idea of setting up practice one day just outside of the city, but since I am somewhat proficient in both Vietnamese and Spanish, maybe working in the city could be a possibility. Aside from dentistry, I have heard that the real estate is very reasonably priced around Atlanta. Is this true?

i definitely think real estate is cheap in GA. In and around ATL, it is more expensive than say going 15-20 miles away from the city. My parents just bought an awesome new 4/3 home in Henry county (about 20 miles south of Atlanta) for $250,000. I can't believe the amount of space and quality of their home for that price! Then again, i've been living in Orlando, FL for the past 5 years and the real estate market here is RIDICULOUS!!! I can't wait to move back to GA and actually have a yard with my house!

This, among all the great reasons mentioned above is why I'm keeping GA in mind. It's defininately growing with great potential.
