Dermatology Clinical Research Fellowship 2012-2013: Dr. David Pariser

The Dermatology Clinical Research Fellowship at Virginia Clinical Research, Inc. is a one-year research opportunity with the possibility to continue for an additional year. This is a well-established research position with an excellent history of successfully matching fellows into a dermatology residency program. Previous fellows have matched into dermatology residency programs at Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), Wake Forest, and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

Dr. David Pariser is the President and Primary Investigator for Virginia Clinical Research, Inc. He is also a Professor in the Department of Dermatology at EVMS and the President of Pariser Dermatology Specialists (private practice). He was the 2009-2010 President of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), as well. He has been actively involved in dermatology clinical trials for over 20 years. The fellow will work directly under Dr. David Pariser, as well as Dr. Robert Pariser, Dr. Cyndi Torosky, and Dr. Molly Smith - all partners at Pariser Dermatology Specialists and community faculty members of the Department of Dermatology at EVMS.

The overall aim of this Fellowship is to educate a potential dermatologist in all aspects of clinical research - from the inception of the study protocol to the publication of the results. The fellow will be a Sub-Investigator for Virginia Clinical Research Inc., and is involved in both investigator-initiated and pharmaceutical-sponsored clinical trials. The realm of dermatologic diseases studied is constantly expanding, but generally includes psoriasis, acne, cutaneous lupus erythematosus, lichen planus, onychomycosis, actinic keratosis, alopecia, hidradenitis suppurativa, and atopic dermatitis. The fellow is involved in all ongoing clinical trials - typically 15-20 studies per year, on average. In addition, the fellow may be asked to attend investigator meetings for upcoming clinical trials, which usually involves weekend travel. The fellow will also have the opportunity to interact with EVMS dermatology residents and faculty members during educational didactics, Grand Rounds, Journal Club, and local and national conferences. Of note, the fellow will have the opportunity to attend at least one major dermatology meeting per year.

We prefer applicants who have completed a PGY-1 year by June 2012. Applicants MUST have taken Step 3 before the start of the fellowship in order to obtain licensure in the state of Virginia. Pay and benefits are commensurate to a PGY-1 level. Start date: December 2012.

Interested applicants should submit the following information: letter of interest updated CV, three letters of recommendation, Dean’s letter, and USMLE Step 1, 2, and 3 scores. Please submit your application to the current research fellow, Dr. Joan Paul, at [email protected].

We welcome and will review all competitive applicants.
