Did any of you get to medical school by just cheating, sucking at classes( math...etc.),not doing work, not studying or any other things like that?

that seems like a loaded question. why do you ask? please explain...

just wondering, but i seems like no one wants to answer

it'd be kind of hard to cheat on EVERYTHING needed to get into med school re: college classes, MCAT, volunteering, and then have meaningful things to say during your interview. Who knows, if you got in that way, it'll be even more difficult to cheat once you're accepted, somewhere along the lines you will be doing real work even if cheating as much as possible...and then one day it allllllll comes down muahahahaha

It doesn't happen. To get a high MCAT score, good grades, and otherwise shine to adcoms, you need to have the goods. And med school is harder than college, so if you skated by in college without the true ability to do well there, you are setting yourself up to be killed by the workload in med school. So good luck with that.

mostly... I studied my ass off the MCAT and in my post-bacc though

I made it to the show by shooting HGH into my ass everyday for the last five years.

Oh, wait. We're talking about medical school? I thought you wanted to know how I walked on to the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad. The only consistent cheating anyone getting into medical school can get away with (in the long run) is cheating themselves out of at least 10 years of their life.

Sort of. I did my undergraduate years long before I even started thinking about medical school and had only average grades, certainly not medical school material.

Additionally, when the time came to take the pre-requisites I was fortunate enough to take most of my organic chemistry classes with a professor who didn't believe in grades and gave everybody an A so I didn't have to work that hard.

Probably the closest I've ever come to cheating was getting old exams from the same professor. Through most of high school and undergrad I got by with cramming the day before an exam, which kind of hurt me once I got to med school because I spent the first two blocks trying to find my studying rhythm. BTW, I checked out your previous posts and note you're a 9th grader. Go enjoy being a ninth grader instead of worrying about med school and matching into dermatology for Christ's sake.

So. Not. Fair.

Most of the folks who find themselves in medical school have not gotten there by cheating their way there.

I doubt if anyone is going to post an extensive cheating record here on a public website. If you are looking for advice in your high school years, "Don't cheat". If you have already started cheating, then stop right now because you are setting yourself up for failure. Why go through all of the work of classes and university only to have one stupid action ruin your career?

I'll admit, I cheat all the time. I figured out how to walk by watching what everyone else did and copied them. Same thing with eating. Though, I did come up with breathing all on my own.

I used to cheat atleast once a week, but now I just eat mostly clean carbs.

Im actually an 11th grader and i didnt mean cheating all the time, i ment just once in while look over your shoulder for an answer or just copy someones homework or just compare answers and if you have it wrong then change it.

Im not trying to say I cheat im just asking a question ( I do cheat once in a while here and there)

Also when you have a regular chem class in college do you start over or do you have to know the basics you learned in high school and go from there?

This is so the wrong board for a high school student. At least start in pre-allo and work your way up. Folks on here are many years removed from where you apparently are now. But no -- cheating is not the path. If you get caught, your career can be over before it starts.

No don't come to pre-allo.... try the international forums!

Naw, don't listen to him. Pre-Allo is just the place for you. There they can teach you how to get perfect grades in every class through sheer willpower and the fear that you will never attain the perfect residency position in dermatology--no cheating necessary!

Each step is easier if you put forth max effort the step before. So yes learning Chem in high school will help in undergrad General Chem, which will help in Organic, which will help get you a good score on the MCAT, which will help you get into a good school, which has great professors that will help you do well on the USMLE exam, which will land you a good residency, which will help prepare you better for your career. It's like pushing a big boulder up a mountain, you get the momentum going and it's manageable; if you take shortcuts and not do so then eventually that rock's gonna roll back and crush you.

Don't cheat. Ok? In high school it's (relatively) not that big of a deal. In college it's a fairly big deal that will end with you failing and class and potentially being booted from the school. In med school if you get caught, you're done. Forever. You will not be a doctor. And if you even look like you're cheating, they'll bust you. My school's testing center has video cameras everywhere. I guess the bottom line is that cheating is always wrong. But at the high school/college level it's sometimes not hard to do and sometimes tolerated. In med school, it is not. They will boot your @ss so fast you won't even know what hit you.

At each level of your education, you will amazed by how much you don't know and how much you are expected to learn. College will seem like a crazy amout of studying, especially if you're slacker-ish. As a general rule in college science/math each level of classes you go up (basically it's freshman/sophomore level, junior/seniore level, and graduate level), you will need a firm grasp of the material from the previous classes. Usually you can't take upper level classes without having had the appropriate lower-level classes.

In med school the amount of information you are expected to learn is extreme. Far more information than undergrad... though none of it is really any "harder" than upper level college science courses. I've always heard (and agree with) this statement about the volume of material in med school: In three weeks of a med school course, you will cover what would be covered in a semester of undergrad. And so since you're taking more than one class at once in med school.... well.... you keep busy.

And just so you don't freak out too much, yes, you actually can sort of slack your way through college and get into med school. I said sort of - not completely. You have to find areas where you can stand out and focus on those to coverup your short-comings. But for the most part, I slacked through college.

i totally did all of this to get into medical school, note, i also killed babies, they're delicious

just one more question

Well i do get fairly good grades like 3.7 gpa(low compared to the kids in my school with 4.3's and up).

Do you have to be really smart to start a carrer in medicine? do you have to know what you learned 4 years ago in pre-cal or alg 2 or is it just science? Do you have to be really good at grammar and stuff? I just kinda got a late start on my learning and i would consider myself stupid except that i just get alright grades because i actually do my work but then forget it.

I never read because i rarely have time to. did you guys read alot when you were 17 or under?

btw thanks alot for all your help

Unless you're working a job and going to school at the same time, how can you not have time to read when you're in high school? What exactly is competing for your time, I mean?

Admissions committees have extra-sensory perception, and knowledge of previous cheating incidents will be instantly perceived with their god-like powers. You are now doomed to a career of an unmentionable nature.

We don't want him either, dammit. He isn't even in college yet. It's good to plan ahead, but you gotta draw the line somewhere.

Also, cheating bad, school is cool, and all that.
