Did I get rejected by Cornell?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

I was copmlete ~ 10/20. Hmm..

that means they only had like 8 days to process and send to the committee for review...don't worry yet, there's another interview in November (I believe the 18th). allow some time for your application to go through the administrative junk and then to huge pile to be read by the faculty.

good luck!

hey neo! did you get back okay? they lost my luggage can you believe it 😡 totally sucks...

They only have 1 more interview date and that's November 18th?? I guess Cornell and I aren't meant to be together then. They JUST sent me an email telling me that my application is complete (I sent in all my stuff two months ago) and that it will go through committee review. Hell, even if they review me today and invite me to come on Nov 18th, I won't even be able to make it because I have an interview already planned that day.

Does this mean my Cornell chances are officially down the drain?

I must say that I'm a bit skeptical of Cornell's notion that they are only gonna have 2 interviews days and get all the final decisions out in early December. That just seemed a bit unrealistic when I first heard it, and seems even more so now considering that some people are just *now* getting complete notices. Has anyone actually talked to someone at Cornell to see if these are, in fact, the *only* 2 MSTP dates? My bet is they are gonna cave and throw in another day or 2 of interviews.

BTW gonzo...you better be coming out to party with us tonight to celebrate our bdays...esp after being a little biiatch and going to the caltech interview over vegas!!!

I disagree, I didn't percieve anything in the interview that would let me believe that they are still tinkering with their application process. It wouldn't surprise me that they're still giving out completion notices because they've held a few spots in the november date open. If you're real late in the game, my guess is that you'll need really good numbers to quickly grab attention to your application. If you have a conflict, you have to play the game of who do you like better, and who is more likely to accept. Best of luck.

I'd have to disagree too. For as long as I can remember, Cornell has always only given two interview dates a year for MD/PhD and has also always notified by early-to-mid December. While there, I had the opportunity to speak at length with both the director and the assistant director of the MSTP program. They run a very tight ship that they have spent a good number of years optimizing. They still have spots left in the November interview... my impression is that they, for the most part, haven't selected the interviewees for the november slot yet... but will be doing that soon.

I suspect there will be a second wave of cornell interview invites on SDN soon enough.

Most schools want at least a month inbetween an invite and an interview so that they can make arrangements for you to talk with faculty, so suppose they were to send out the other invites this week they would be giving us TWO WEEKS?!?!?!

The only reason i haven't tossed in the towel with cornell is because there hasn't been a single person on the invite thread here that was scheduled for 11/18. Kinda odd. I'm not holding my breath.

Yeah, Cornell also differs from most other schools in that respect... you don't get to choose the faculty that you meet with at all. I think that's just something they've done because they need to accomodate such large numbers of people at each day. Just sit tight and I'm sure things'll be ok 🙂

I got scheduled for the 18th. I was complete with them on 10/20, got the invite a week later.
Oh and you think that's bad? NYU gave me 11 days. I had to reschedule.
