i had an acceptance but may withdraw and reapply. in looking at amcas2006, when amcas asks if i matriculated to a md school, it has this definition:

You have "matriculated" as a medical school student if you accepted an offer of admission and did not withdraw, or you registered for classes, whether or not you actually attended classes.

i'm not sure if i would be considered to have "matriculated" or not. does sending in a deposit consider me registered?

no, unless you filled out financial aid information and registered for classes, you haven't matriculated. But why do you want to reapply?

ouch. i don't know your whole picture, but still, why reapply and subject yourself to another harrowing year as a lowly pre-med?

pardon my ignorance, but when are you officially registered? when you fill out a packet papers they send you? when you sign a paper at orientation? is there a paper you sign that says you are officially registering?

I still can't believe you're considering to re-apply when so many of us just want to get in. I guess I'm just bitter 'cause I feel like this whole process is taking forever. Anyway, best of luck with everything!

When I asked one school at what point I am no longer able to be pulled off their waitlist, they said when I matriculate at another school, and when I asked when that was, they said that's when I attend orientation or start class. But I'm not sure if that's the same criteria that AMCAS means when they ask for purposes of reapplying.

As Kazema states, marticulation starts once you physically attend class or orientation. Sending deposits, registering (before orientation via internet), Fin Aid forms, or anything else doesnt count...good luck

I believe Kazema is right on the money. If you've started orientation or classes, then AMCAS considers that you've officially matriculated.

http://www.aamc.org/students/applying/policies/admissionofficers.htm
"No school make an acceptance offer, either verbal or written, to any individual who has enrolled in, or begun an orientation program immediately prior to enrollment at, a U.S. or Canadian school. Enrollment is defined as being officially matriculated as a member of the school's first-year entering class."
