Didn't make it into summer biochem. Is UNE my only option before fall?

As a post bac, my school only allows me to register for classes with the freshman, and unfortunately, I did not make it in to biochem off the wait list yet (starts in 2 weeks). I have acceptances for this fall that require (obviously) biochem. It looks like my options are really slim now? Une and uc Berkeley are self paced but the ucb course requires 3 months. Kansas, Colorado, Oregon, Minnesota, rice, Wisconsin, South Dakota, and several others already started. Is there something else I am missing?

UNE is actually an awesome self-paced course, but be prepared to work your butt off. I thought I'd finish it in 8 weeks, it ended up taking me the full 16. Keep in mind it doesn't start when you register, as there are specific start dates, so you might want to sign up sooner rather than later!

Thanks for the information about start dates! I will call them Monday and hopefully find out when the next group starts. You are the first person I've heard call it "awesome" (unless you are talking about the old course with only a final exam). Most commonly, I've read it described as "awful" on multiple forums. It's a bit concerning to me! Supposedly, 50% withdraw according to someone who did a poll. You may be able to get into one of the closed classes, depending on how long ago it started. I took colorados last spring and missed registering on time. I emailed the professor and explained that I needed to take it for a veterinary school id gotten in to, he was great to deal with and gave me permission to sign up after registration closed. I also liked the course, it's a bit expensive but the set up suited me.

I agree with Cyndia. I know some of those classes would still be in their second week, or maybe only their first week. I think Oregon just finished their first week, so you're only a day or so after the online registration deadline right now. Try emailing the professors at one of those schools (or call the department office if you can't reach the professors) and tell them you're already accepted to vet school and that you really need it this term or you'll lose your spot. I got in... uh... 2.5 weeks into the term or something this spring for a couple classes. And I didn't even have the excuse of a waitlist not working out - it was mostly because I failed to count credits correctly. 😳

That's if you don't want to take the UNE course. I thought some of the other UNE courses were pretty good, and not hard, but I have no idea about biochem.

I'm signed up for biochem at Rutgers starting Monday and running for 5 weeks. The professor has great reviews, but it is double the average price! I'll post in a few weeks about how it goes.

Has anyone had any issues with applying to school with UNE prerequisites? I am curious to know if they are looked down upon with the labs being online instead of in person. I'm thinking I may have to take quite a few UNE courses for prerequisites due to my work schedule as they offer some of the lab courses I would need. I already checked with the schools I will be applying and am waiting to hear back, but I just wasn't sure if they look at them any differently. Let me know your thoughts/experiences!

I did Org 1 & 2 (with labs) and Biochem through UNE online and was accepted to Va-Md.

its not UNE, nor is it answering your question, but I just finished up biochem through colorado state and enjoyed the course! I heard some not great things about the UNE biochem course so just putting that out there if you end up needing to take biochem online.
