I didn't match to omfs and am doing an intern year. I am not sure what to do now, if I go back into general dentistry, will I still have a chance if I apply while working the next year?

I agree with extractions...I am doing a non-cat year...identify why you didnt match. This is important and figure out what you need to do. Doing a non-cat year puts you ahead of a lot of other applicants because you essentially did your first year already.

I didn't match either...sent my stuff to postmatch programs as well as non-cats and hoping for the best. Already planned on taking the cbse again.

Do internship and try again.
Do you think I need to do another intern year after this one I’m currently in while I reapply? I would rather work as a GP to earn money while I apply, would that decrease my chances?

Identify exactly why you didn’t match. An additional intern year might not necessarily improve your application at all in my opinion (ie if you have a CBSE <55.)
Would it be ok to start working again as a gp while I reapply, or do programs look down on that?

If you didn't get in after the first intern year, doesn't that mean it's over? I ask because I know a few people who kept trying but never got in and wasted a good chunk of their life trying to get in. Ultimately, they gave up and become a GP. Besides that, the ideas above this post seem to be good ideas.

I’m going to have to add to your post.

Performing WELL at a non-cat year puts you ahead. Performing poorly, being let go, or dropping out Will be detrimental to the application.

Couldn’t have said it better. Everyday is an interview day and you have to prove to the attendings and your co-residents that you are able to handle residency and the amount of work that comes with it.

Anyone comment on undergrad grades? Like if you have 65+ and top 15% but have pretty mediocre undergrad grades are you SOL?

Depends if it is a 6yr program or 4yr program. Applicants to 6yr programs are reviewed jointly by the OMFS dept and Med School so there is a chance you can get screened by the medschool if your undergrad GPA is not up to standards. An exceptionally strong CBSE score can somewhat make up for a subpar undergrad GPA but from what I noticed, the more prestigious the affiliated medschool is, the more they look for higher CBSE scores and undergrad GPAs. I think all of the people I met this interview season (for 6yr programs) had scores that fell somewhere within 75-98.
