I'm in my senior year of high school and still haven't taken the SAT. I had serious health problems from 7th-11th grade, and this is my first school year where I've not had to skip a lot of school and have A's in my classes without trying..I don't know if I could get a good score on my SATs or not.
Anyway...I plan on completing 4 year degree in Biology in 2 1/2 or 3 years. I'd like to go to a community college for my basic classes and then transfer to a 4 year college for my required classes for med school.
Now, I was already accepted to our local CC and they do not require me to take my SATs to attend. My mom doesn't think it's necessary for me to take my SATs, but my aunt thinks I should.

I guess my question is: will not taking the SAT hurt my chances of getting into a good medical school..will I be able to get in at all?

No. It doesn't. It might be a little harder for you, since you are coming from community college, but I mean, If you really don't feel like taking the SAT now (and don't mind potentially going an extra year or two waiting to get into med school), then I say go for it, I guess.

Just make sure to choose something you like, not just something that looks good, (i.e. Bio, Chem etc.) also, I stress that you take all your pre-reqs at the four year. You will be overloading a lot of courses, on top of studying for your MCAT when you transfer to your state school, so I HIGHLY suggest you think about this.

You will be in a world of pain and potentially bomb the MCAT and taking classes for your major, and I just see a world of stress.

Hypothetically speaking, if you were my child, I would tell you to take the SAT.

Good luck, OP

I think you still need an SAT score for when you transfer over from the CC to the actual university.

Most universities have a requirement of a minimum SAT regardless of how many credits you have or where you are coming from.

Would it be a stupid idea to take my SAT during my freshman year of college?

Also, do you think my goal of completing my degree in 2/3 years is a long shot?

thanks for your help

My cousin completed her degree in 3 years. She struggled to maintain a high GPA and she was an english major. Ended up with a 3.5, however, she wasn't a premed.

That is my only concern..if I feel my grades aren't high enough, I will back off. I want to get the best grades possible. Thank you for your help

If you are determined, let nothing stop you. Keep applying, or just do great out of the gate. There's a neurosurgeon that works at Johns Hopkins and he went to community college and transferred to Berkeley. Went to Harvard Medical School too, and did residency at UCSF.
