Hey yall,

My littmann cardiology III recently disappeared somewhere in the hospital and I am lucky if I hear a heart sound with the disposable stethoscopes I am using right now, so I am trying to decide which stethoscope to buy. I am an intern right now and will be going into radiation oncology, so I dont necessarily need to or will ever be able to detect subtle differences in types of murmurs/rubs/gallops but I still want to be able to do a proper lung exam and tell whether a murmur IS there. Can anyone please share some light on whether the litmann cardiology II or lightweight would be able to fulfill these needs or whether I should just suck it up and get another cardiology III?

THANKS!!

I have cardiology III. I read somewhere that when you join residency you are given a Stethoscope and iPad. I am not sure what brand of Stethoscope though. I am not sure if this is true for all programs.

I have a Littmann Cardiology III and then got a Littmann Classic II SE as a gift. I can hear things just as well with the classic.

I also got a back-up cardiology stethoscope from All Heart for $25 bucks that I use for free clinics & travel. I can also hear most things fine with that, except for maybe the most subtle heart sounds.

No need to get another Littmann cardiology IMHO.

Also, unless you're talking specifically about rad/onc, it is definitely not the case that every program gives you a stethoscope and iPad. I've come across maybe one that does.
