I could be wrong since it has been while. ABout three years ago I think I filled out DODMERB for USUHS application and MEPS for HPSP scholarship.

Yeah, that seems right. I did MEPS up at a federal building with a bunch of other recruits. It was kind of funny when the guy was looking over our paperwork, and he said something to the extent of, "Are you sure your going to be an officer and not enlisted?"

DODMERB was more like your doctor's office visit with one doc.

You will have to get two physicals. DODMERB and MEPS do not recognize each other --- even though they have the same requirements. Also, if you have any red flags or disqualifications, be prepared to spend months trying to get consultations and extra work from both organizations.

Just resurrecting an old thread here. While I was at USUHS they told us that the DODMERB should work for the HPSP scholarship, however, the HPSP recruiter is thinking that I will still need to go through MEPs…even though I am already in the military.

Anyone have any insight into this?

DODMERB is good enough. In fact, they are talking about having all HPSP applicants go through DODMERB.

How do I convince my recruiter of that. he just wrote me this today "Sir,
I'm sorry. Looks like we have to complete a MEPS physical. I will do my
best to ensure you get in and out of the MEPS as quick as possible. I
need to meet with you and have you complete the pre screen form prior to
scheduling the physical"

I had to go through MEPS even though I was already in. It was fun being treated like a private again, even though I was an NCO at the time.

Get there at 0430.
Wait in line.
Go to the Army office, they are confused about why you are there.
Standing in the middle of the hallway, some SPC gets in your face "get up against the wall like everybody else. You are cluttering up the place!!!"
Pull out your ID demonstrating that you CURRENTLY out rank him.
Good times.

I can't wait to see what a CPTs rank will do at a MEPS station.

Call the HPSP headshed for your service. They can talk to the recruiter.

Kind of a tanget question -
Does a military officer outrank any enlisted person?

The short answer is yes. But I would never discount the influence that good enlisted leaders (Non-commissioned Officers) can have on officers nor how important they are to making the system work.

A brand new 2LT, 1 day in service, is saluted by a Command Sergeant Major with 30 years in service. But who do you really think has more influence/power?

I once watched a crusty old CSM angrily go off on the CDR (a 27 year old CPT) of my Basic Training company, all the while, addressing him as "sir."

You can say just about anything as long as you preface it "With all due respect sir/ma'am"
