If you were to look at somebody who has crooked eyes, how would you know if it was strabismus or amblyopia, at first glance?

And are they physiologically different...maybe because of nerve or muscle disorders...?

strabismus = eye turn

amblypia = a person not correctable to 20/20, and is totally a diagnosis of exclusion. a person with stabismus does not necessary have an eye turn .. AND a person with amblyopia does not necessarily have strabismus

These conditions are vastly different.

If someone has "crooked eyes" you can say that they have strabismus.

If they have "crooked eyes" they may or may not have amblyopia, and you would not be able to tell this simply by looking at them.

Strabismus can cause amblyopia in children. Amblyopia can be caused by many things, not just strabismus.

I don't agree that it is a diagnosis of exclusion. If an eye is not correctable to 20/20 and does not have any amblyogenic factors, I don't think you can then say that they have amblyopia.

In what cases does a person have strabismus without an "eye turn"??

Did you mean to say that a person with strabismus does not necessarily have amblyopia?
