First things first, I searched on SDN, but couldn't find anything...

So what are the differences between the different Osteopathic schools? I found the AACOM website, and looked at all the different descriptions, but they are are rather generic.

"Our school has astate of the art facility and a friendly environment, not to mention an innovative curriculum."

That doesn't tell me a whole lot. So is there some sort of guide which will tell you specifically what the differences are?

P.S. If you wanna put your first choice and why, that'd be cool. It may give me a bit of insight if I share the same ideals as you.

I guess to start with there's the original schools (which are all private I think?), the public schools, the newer privates, and the private branch schools.

I feel that a lot of the biggest differences lie between these categories. Also, check to see what the mission statement of the school is. Some (especially the newer public and private schools) were created with the specific goal of producing physicians that will serve a certain underserved geographical area, though I don't believe there's anything binding if you attend such a school.

Another good thing to do would be to read Gevitz's book. Understanding the history of the profession will give you a better idea about the differences between the schools.

Okay, thanks for the info, but Iguess I'm too dumb to even go from there. I looked at KCOM, thinking they'd have an "old-school" philosophy, but they do PBL (I think). I can't tell by what they're saying! 🙂

I still don't know what the generalizations would be for each school. I could tell you what I'm looking for, but really, I'd like to know about the schools I THINK I wouldn't like, cause I don't wanna sell them or myself short.

You can check out my blog to see what CCOM rotations are like. I think they are the best by far!

i think it would be much easier if you posted what schools you were interested in getting information about. that would give us a place to start.
