Hi everyone,

I apologize in advance for the long thread. I have a bit of a situation with my gpa and I would like to know how these would affect my chances of getting into medical school.

During my college years I was forced to move back and forth between U.S and Canada and I have different GPAs in different countries.

GPA
I started off at Harper college, Illinois, with 22 credits and a GPA of 2.6 - I underestimated college

I moved to York University, Canada and did 63 credits with GPA of 2.7 - this university was significantly different from Harper college. Even though I studied 5 times more than I did when I was at Harper college, I just couldn't get an A

I moved back to the U.S this January. Right now I'm studying at National University of Health science and finished 28 credits with GPA of 4.0 - I found out this university's difficulty level to be similar to Harper college but, because I know how to study now, I'm able to get straight A's. I will have finished 40 more credits by the time I graduate and I am confident that I will maintain straight A's till then.
In summary, my current cGPA is 2.8 and I'm sure it will increase to 3.2 before I apply, with the last 68 credit hours being 4.0.

MCAT
I took the MCAT practice exam and scored 31. I plan on taking the Princeton review course to hopefully get at least a 35.

EC
350 hours of volunteering at a hospital - fracture clinic, escorting and MRI
Just started organic chemistry peer tutoring and will continue for 1 more year
and federal work study working at schools registrar's office.

I guess my final questions are:

-How will Medical schools, MD and DO, across the U.S will judge my GPA? Is it possible they put more emphasis on my American GPA and ignore my Canadian grades?
-how are my EC?
-what minimum mcat score should I aim for?

Thank you.

It's your cGPA that counts, and school won't ignore poor coursework, no matter where it as taken.

The low GPA will hurt you, but there are schools out there that reward reinvention so try the lowest of the low tier MD schools, and all DO programs. Try the newest MD programs too.

Thank you, Goro, for your insight. Do you also have any opinions/suggestions about my EC?
